Celtics coach Doc Rivers told ESPNBoston.com on Sunday he thought it would be a "stretch" if free agent Ray Allen chose to sign with a team other than the Celtics....

When asked about his status on the Dan Patrick radio show on Tuesday, Rivers sounded much less confident.

“I don’t know," Rivers said. "We’re working hard. He has a lot of options and that’s the bad news for us. It’ll be interesting. I wish I had a feel on it. Usually I do. But I can tell you in this one I don’t.”

I think it's funny how players will almost threaten to join us, and scare other teams into making offers on them.

It's like "whoa we can't let THAT guy join the heat, it would be all over"

It's why I don't think Pat will ever be able to make a trade of fair value with this group. A lot of bitter burned **** out there in the NBA.

Anyways. While it would be nice to get Ray. We don't absolutely NEED him. James Jones and Mike Miller do the same thing, but also rebound. Ray would be a luxury, and I think would fit into our culture. Plus I think the biggest thing is that he wouldn't be on Boston anymore. Which I feel like is half the reason we want him. Just because we're tired of seeing that guy walk into 3s against us.

Getting Camby would have a bigger impact on the team dynamic, giving us our first legit center of the big three era. Which would make us a lot more versatile in terms of the different lineups Spo could use.

So to some extent, if I were Riley, I'd prioritize Camby.

But Pat knows what he's doing.

Dude got Lebron, Bosh, Battier, and Mile Miller in free agency...ALL DISCOUNTED

Do any of you know if Ray and Rashard were good friends in Seattle? Maybe if we were able to sign Rashard to the vet min, we'd be able to convince Ray to sign here. Or if not, we could still fall back on Camby.

Lots of chicken littles around these parts. Don't post here that often so not sure if that's par for the course or not but does anyone actually think that Pat Riley of all people will allow himself to be played like a fool?

Plenty of guys have used the Heat for leverage... Mo Williams, Lamar Odom, Derek Fisher, now maybe Ray Allen...

ray allen is the priority here. nothing gets done until a decision is reached on that file. as tim reynolds said, this is an organization decision to go for ray, wade and bron are calling him too.

i don't understand the "getting played" angle... this is free agency, players look at their options, gm's make pitches and then see what happens. if ray doesn't sign, that doesn't mean he "played" miami. you just move on to the next target.

so basically we don't want to fill our huge hole at Center, and would rather get our 4th or 5th wing player on the roster. Redundant......

So you wouldn't want Ray Allen backing up Wade and extending Wade's career?

Wer'e probably just gonna end up starting Joel for the regular season and then put Bosh at C for the playoffs

Valkyrie, perhaps you haven't seen Lewis play the last couple of years but he's not getting more than the Vet min from anyone. There's absolutely no rush to sign him.

Lewis would be well down my lists of wants.

Why aren't we talking to Billups?

And Jamison? or are we?
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

We don't need to get Ray Allen to do that. Just rest Wade more minutes and look for one of the many free agent wing players. A guy to play SG and sit on the 3pt line is easy to find. Why does it have to be Ray Allen?

I don't know what to say to a guy like you who wants to go small ball forever. If this team had a legitimate Center to play defense and rebound, and even a little scoring liek Camby can do, we are UNSTOPPABLE. It's our biggest weakness. We already have guys like Ray Allen on the roster. Battier and Jones.... and there are FA forwards/guards out there.

I think Chris Tomasson said he'd only sign for the 3 million... so we can't get him and Ray

If Camby is really that greedy i'll have a bad feeling about him coming here.

But anyway, we could give Ray the MiniMLE and give Camby the 2.9 Mil$ disabled player exception we get if Miller does the surgery.

Everyone - Rashard Lewis, if he comes here, will come for the Vet Minimum. his own agent practically said so.

I'm not saying I don't want Camby, but I'm just gonna stick by Riley's decision
