Because there are celebrities in Hollywood more famous than he is, and he'd have to play second fiddle to Kobe. Dwight wants to go to a winning team, but not a winning team so good that it'll have someone who outshines him (see Lakers, OKC, Chicago, etc). Crazy, innit?

Dwight doesn't really want LA for the fact he's behind Kobe and he's just "another Shaq". He doesn't want Chicago because it will always be Rose's team.

well obviously, you always try to get a better and younger player in a trade.

Orlando is laughing if they do this.

Man LA just keeps rolling in the franchise centers. If you draft an elite center in the NBA just know you are on borrowed time because the lakeshow will eventually get him.

Would make LA a serious contender in the West if they can also hold onto Gasol.

Dwight is a drama queen but no doubt he is better than Bynum. Would make LA a serious contender in the West if they can also hold onto Gasol.

I think Gasol still gets moved because of his contract.

Bynum may be the better low post scorer. I'm sure he will even put up better numbers being the number 1 option, but Howard defense is on another level.

Let's be fair, if L.A. does get a new franchise center this time, it'll be by trading another franchise center for him. And of course they got Bynum because they were willing to take a long-term gamble on him... it was just a matter of good drafting on their part. Unlike some past Laker trades, if Orlando moves Dwight for Andrew, they'll be getting 90 cents on the dollar for him.

I think Bynum only cares about the $$$$$$$.

Yeah, he does lol. He already said he doesn't care where he plays.

It's been a whole 5 years since the Lakers were gifted a player. Why not Howard?

Well in Bynum's defense, he has what 2 rings already? It's different from most young guys who start on **** teams and ring chase as they get older. His career is like the opposite.

Not surprised he is motivated by $$$ and getting his touches.

If I'm the Lakers I don't do it without Dwight signing an extension. If he does not sign an extension that means theres a very good chance could leave.

And Bynum is all the Lakers have right now. After Kobe retires they will be in the gutter without Bynum.

Plus Orlando would need some assurance that Bynum would resign with them too.
Bynum as it is now is an expiring contract.

i've never understood why howard would not covet the lakers. what is special about brooklyn?

Its a blank slate. The second Howard sets foot on Brooklyn he is their top center ever. In la people would only put him above bynum

Lakers have to take it. Even if Dwight walks. Just because they have no assets to improve their bench enough to get past OKC. And this move changes the dynamic.

They have 1 year to suffer after then hit the full reset button.

Assuming they keep Hedo & Metta through 2013-2014. Along with Kobe & Pau deals expiring after 2013-2014. Those 4 players alone are $69.665million coming off the books in one year.

It is a huge risk parting with Bynum for Howard, who will walk. But it allows the Lakers to change things quickly if it all goes South.

Kobe and Gasol are both on the back end of their careers. He could easily get stuck in a similar situation as he's in right now in Orlando, being the cornerstone on a team that isn't going anywhere. Now, I don't see what the big deal about Brooklyn is either, but the Lakers have issues.
