OT: Deron Re-signs with Brooklyn

Post#1 » by The59Sound » Wed Jul 4, 2012 12:11 am

Per Wiretap
Deron Williams has decided to re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets.

Williams also considered signing with the Dallas Mavericks

Williams announced the news via Twitter.

The contract will be for approximately $98 million over five years. Williams could have instead signed with the Mavericks for $75 million over four seasons.

It feels like only yesterday people were claiming there was a better chance of Deron signing with Utah than the Nets...

Good for the Nets and Deron.

Honestly we couldn't afford $20,000,000 for a PG so it seems like KOC still made the right move.

Oh, and Favors has made the transition pretty easy as well.

I can't speak for what he says or how he acts in the locker room or in meetings with team officials, but the guy has been nothing but a class act with how he's conducted himself with the media and the public. He's a true professional; especially when you compare him to some of his peers.

Because not until recently(Yesterday) the Jazz did but the moves they (Nets) have made is what kept him in Brooklyn, Dallas has not dealt or traded for anyone.

I wish him nothing but the best and hope for him to succeed.

Also, can't help but rooting for anyone that may have the chance to pose an alternative to the Heat in the east.

Yeah, I'm rooting for Deron as well, he did nothing but help us. We could be in a much worse position had Deron crapped out or held us hostage which he could have, but didn't.

I'm happy cor him.

I always have been a huge fan of Deron, and always going to be...... Maybe I'll go and check out a couple of his games this year......

As someone who was glad Deron was shipped out, I agree with the sentiment that he conducted himself very professionally this year. I'm also "happy" for the Nets, because it would have been a mortal blow to give up as much as they did, only to have Deron walk.

This trade worked out great for both sides.

This. I honestly don't see any way that he could have handled it better than he did, even with the media trying to drum up a story that wasn't there.

Deron always seemed like a pretty smart guy, I'm a little surprised he re-upped with this terrible roster they have. Idk exactly what other teams he could have signed with, but I do know unless the Nets pull off a miracle and get dwight now, they're not sniffing the finals with a 30+ Joe Johnson and almost 30 year old Gerald Wallace as their 2nd and 3rd best players and nary a big man who can defend or rebound. Neither Deron nor Joe handles quick guards well either, so outside of Gerald Wallace, who is supposed to play defense?

I still like him, and I'll root for him. But man does that roster scream 2nd round out.

I still love Deron like you love a first love... wish him the best in Brooklyn. He did well to not make his free agency a huge thing despite the media always trying to blow it out of proportion though; gotta give him props for that.

i think deron learned from his aloofness with utah. he is married and has a family. solidarity is what matters to him. sure he wants to win, but making a living is what is most important to him. this is what it seems like to me.

the jazz probably could have resigned him, had they not traded him. but he made mistakes, and he forced oconnors hand. jazz didnt screw up. they made the right move. but if they didnt make the move, they would have gone through a circus not unlike what malone put the organization through not even 10 years ago, and what we all have been witnessing the last several months.

Yeah I'm happy for the Nets, though the Nets look like they will lose out on Howard with all these other signings. Also WHY in the world would you trade a future first for Reggie Evans. Anyways they have a pretty good team, and if they are able to make a trade for Howard, they are contenders.
