Lakers get Steve Nash

Lakers Making Push For Steve Nash
July 3 at 8:14pm CST By Michael Pina

The Lakers are making a late move to try and sign Steve Nash, tweets NBA.com reporter David Aldridge. The Raptors, Knicks, and Mavericks are three other teams in the mix.

From Alridge's piece on NBA.com:

The Lakers, with a payroll already projected in excess of $83 million next season, would only be able to offer Nash an exception starting at $3.09 million for next season. It’s unlikely Nash would take that, so a sign-and-trade deal would be a more realistic possibility.

The Lakers do have a viable starting point guard they could send Phoenix in such a deal, Ramon Sessions, who became an unrestricted free agent after surprisingly opting out of the last year of his contract. Forwards Jordan Hill and Matt Barnes are also free agents.

Solves a lot of our ball distribution and perimeter shooting issues. I doubt we can offer more than the raps/nicks/mavs, so it will be up to him to take a paycut to play for a likely contender.

This would be enticing to D12. Also D12 can cover up for Nash's defensive liabilities.

More likely is L.A. offering about 19m over 2 years. It's good money, not Toronto money but I think Nash would consider it.

Couldn't Nash be a had via a S&T deal with the Suns? Maybe using the Odom exception?

I love Nash but i just dont see this working with the system Brown runs especially knowing our clear weakness is guarding athletic PGs. Then again another HUGE problem we have is scoring and having a structure on offense. I guess as long as Big crybaby Bynum plays anchor D and blocks everything that could work...i hope.

Well one easy way of guarding someone is making them work. Mike Brown would be bitchslapped by Kobe if he tried to get in Steve's way.

It would have to be a S&T.
And I would be shocked if the Suns will hand delivered Nash to the Lakers in a S&T.

I doubt the Suns would be douchebags and deny a pick or a two in a trade to spite Steve.

I'd welcome Nash with open arms. Just wish he was about 4 years younger
