Ray Ray would be very stupid to sign on again with the Celtics. Unless he's just in it for the money. PT and a better chance for a ring = heat.

How exactly is Ray Allen using us? He already has been offered more money than Miami can offer him by two teams (Memphis and Boston). Boston's offer is already on the table, and I don't think anyone thinks Boston will go higher. So explain to me how Allen is "using" us?
As for Terry, the way Boston "got" Terry was by offering him every last dollar they could (full MLE), and it being more than anyone else is offering. Miami is apparently offering every last dollar they can to Allen already, but it just so happens that other teams are offering Ray even more. And in spite of that, Allen still hasn't rule Miami out.
If we don't end up with Allen, so be it; we never could've matched the $ Boston is offering Terry right now anyway, so its not like we would've been in the running for him. If we DO end up with Allen, though, this thread will be a good laugh: we'll end up with a better player for less money.

I would love Ray Allen here. I don't see why he would sentimentally favor the Cs. It's going to come down to money or less stress, imo

Ray, seems like a smart guy with his career earning I doubt the extra millions are going to be important at this stage of his career. I think he would prefer ending his career with a bang, then struggling to get through the wild west for two-three consecutive years. On the other hand we are talking millions and a starting spot to play with CP3, however at the end of the day I think Ray will join us

Re: Terry close to signing for Boston, Ray Allen signing?
Lebron is pulling out all the stops recruiting and of course adding Ray Ray would be GREAT, but if he chooses elsewhere fine. I trust Riley. He will add what we need.
To compare our position before our title defense in a 2007 after winning in 06 to our team now is not apples to apples. That 06 team was built for 1-3 year run and it did just that. No moves were made and we flamed out but I think that core was on the wrong end of the hourglass more then we were asleep at the wheel not making a ton of moves. Wade was Wade but everybody else was winding down, Zo, Shaq, GP, Posey, JWill, Toine all fell off the map by the next 1-2 years. that team was built to win and be blown up when the tank ran out of gas.
this 2012-13 team is filled with 5 KEY guys who are either approaching, are in, or are only slightly out of their prime. this team's MOST important 3 players are all in pretty damn close to their prime. Wade is going to become effective in a different way then ever before as we move forward but I sense he may find a niche in that role and flourish in the RIGHT way for this team.
This team was built to last, for a 4-6 year LEGIT run.
Allen, Camby, RLewis whomever is obtained is all gravy.

Re: Terry close to signing for Boston, Ray Allen signing?
If Terry signs with Boston, Ray is coming here. I think NY just got some room... I'm not sure, but we just **** won. How can he not say no to us besides Boston? We're going to need someone to back up Wade. Or that huge threat on the offensive end at the end of games. Then have Battier at the end for defense or something. Two threats offensively. Ray Allen is really bad defensively, hence Battier on the defensive end. DAmn Shane was a good signing. He sucked sometimes and got burned defensively but he's willing to do that stuff. It helps Wade/LBJ.
If we get Camby and Ray, we are fine. Even if we don't get Camby it's fine. I'd just really like Ray. Our game is inside and out. Having the best 3 point shooter of all time on a threat at the perimeter (AND HE DOES NOT STAND AROUND LIKE OUR GUYS, hopefully some plays are ran for him too) would be phenomenal for Wade or LBJ. Hell, I'd sign Ray JUST TO BE A DECOY so we can open up the paint lol.
We don't need overhauls of the role players or something. Keep in mind we have rookies who are developing too. If they improve, it's like a new signing but with some chemistry lol.
Btw I'd like Camby off the bench or to start but at the end Bosh has to be at Center. It's the best for this team. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT.
Then again we could be having Pittman off the bench... maybe he will finally have a good year. He showed flashes of being a productive player.

Miami needs a big man.... Probably Riley doesn't see a BIG man that is worth signing for the small MLE. But Heat really need one, especially if Howard goes to Brooklyn... I'm all for Camby if they can take him for the minimum.

People talking about 2007 do realize that Riley has already come out and said that not changing that team was one of his big regrets, right? Leaving that team was not the right choice, and even Riley acknowledges that.

Don't act like Wade didn't get injured. Riley is forgetting what happened.
The guys in 2007 became lazy and unmotivated, yes, but Wade getting injured and Riley going gestapo with body fat measurements on Antoine and Posey ruined the season.

Miami was .500 (or close to it) when Wade got injured. They were going nowhere no matter what.

To be fair, most of that was without Shaq. The way that season went, Shaq went down early, we floundered around .500, then Shaq came back just as Wade got hurt and we went on a run to solidify our playoff spot.
Its not safe to assume Shaq could've stayed healthy for a full season, but I do think its safe to assume that if he could have, and if Wade doesn't have his fluke injury, that's a 50+ win team.

Wasn't that Shaq's rebellious year where he allegedly confronted Riley at practice and stuck his finger in his chest? Shaq's attitude combined with those of Posey, JWill, Antoine, GP, etc., really screwed any chances of a repeat.
I remember the offseason before that Shaq boasting of adding weight and becoming even more unstoppable. He's always thought he was better than he was, and he lived outside of reality most of the time. If he ever could have stayed dedicated and focused he probably would have more rings.

Nah, that happened the following year, shortly before he was traded.
Attitudes weren't really an issue in 06-07 beyond guys not pushing themselves hard enough, in terms of playing as a team that was a wonderful team, as evidenced by the way they came together after Wade went down to make a strong push for the number 5 seed.
The real problem was injuries, plain and simple. Both Shaq and J-Will missed a lot of the season while Wade was healthy (Shaq most of it), and GP/Posey also missed games while Wade was still healthy, leaving Wade playing with a severely undermanned roster. Then by the time everyone's health finally got back to normal, Wade goes down with his dislocated shoulder (I remember they had a couple of real quality wins against San Antonio/Cleveland shortly before this happened).

What? Did you forget Shaq landed on Ron Artests foot (I still think Ron was doing it intentionally) and was injured?
then Wade got injured and missed the rest of the year, held off surgery and only came back in the playoffs at 70% or something?
"not changing the team" had nothing to do with why we failed. Injuries and Riley losing the locker room did. I absolutely love Pat Riley, but he did the same thing he got in trouble for with the Lakers. He went crazy with the players and they mentally checked out on the team and we got bounced in 4 games due to it.

no, attitudes did hurt the team. Pat Riley lost Antoine Walker and James Posey, he benched them because he didn't like their fitness level. Riley started putting guys on treadmills and measuring their body fat.
Then Riley said, ok, you guys don't care and want to coast? so he went and had his hip surgery. Even Pat Riley was unhappy.
He went gestapo on them, as I said before. He lost some of the locker room due to it, guys just checked out mentally.
Attitudes + injuries is why 2007 happened. Not "I regret not changing the team"

Re: Terry close to signing for Boston, Ray Allen signing?
You guys sound like Celtics fans after this year's playoffs. We had a bunch of over-the-hill, out-of-shape, unmotivated players. Of course they end up injured. And even the freak injuries (yes, I remember Shaq's ankle) were made much worse by the lack of fitness.
I stand by the statement that team was going nowhere. Even fully healthy, everyone was going to be worse that season than they had been before, except Wade.

I'd disagree that fully healthy they were going nowhere. The team that went to the Finals that season? LeBron's Cavs... the same team many consider one of the worst Finals participants of all time.
I don't think its a stretch at all to think if Shaq and Wade do not have their freak injuries, there is a very good chance that team at least returns to the Finals. And while they wouldn't be favorites, they'd have at least a punchers chance against the Spurs, especially with Wade playing better than ever (he was in a zone that season right up until getting hurt).
I agreed with you already that you can't take their health for granted, especially with a player like Shaq, although Wade's injury was extremely fluky and unfortunate, and I think if Wade doesn't go down that team could've still made the Finals.
