Rockets to Meet with Jeremy Lin

Post#1 » by Kal El » Tue Jul 3, 2012 8:01 pm

The Rockets will meet with Jeremy Lin in Houston on Wednesday, according to sources.

Lin is a restricted free agent drawing interest from the Knicks and Raptors.

New York is widely expected to match any offer sheet Lin signs.

I think it was very fitting last season that the Rockets picked up Lin in the off season. Too bad he was let go but he went on to be an overnight celebrity once he got his chance in New York. Dragic's future with Houston is in doubt due to contract disagreements. Lowry wants out of Houston and the Rockets who once had 2 starting caliber point guards could end up with none.

New York is going after Steve Nash and even if that fails, we should offer Lin a back loaded contract. He has shown what he is capable of and he has a lot of potential left and room to grow.

Who wants Linsanity in Houston?

F*ck no... This all smoke and mirrors!

If we don't sign Dragic we keep Lowry simple. This just putting persure on Dragic the list of teams lookin for a pg is growing smaller... He wants more than the 8mil we offered

We are doing all this while increasing Lowry value, because now he doesn't look expendable.

Lin can come and be a back up to one of the two but as a starter...

As far as Lowry goes, I'm really not taking the whole "I want out of Houston" seriously. Maybe I'm falsely thinking that but I don't think its too serious.

Dragic on the other hand, he knows he can a better deal than the $8mil we offered and something tells me he will end up in PHX.

Lin is not on the level as Lowry or Dragic but he showed a lot last season when he was given an opportunity. I think he is definitely capable of being a solid starting point guard.

If the Lowry situation is serious and he really wants out of Houston, then our only other option is to give Dragic more money. The thing about Lin is that he will be worth a lot more than what he can bring to the basketball court. We were the team that drafted Yao in 2002 and our F.O. knows very well all the pluses that come with that. With the hype that Lin created last season, it's hard for me not to believe that the Rockets are not thinking the same thing I'm thinking.

I don't think he's a bad point. He's at least a starter in this league, although his contract would not be as good as Lowry's.

If Dragic wants 10 million, I say we dangle the possibility of going after Lin and let other people overpay Dragic. Besides, Lin can play off the ball and could back up the 2nd guard spot as well and Lowry likes to break something in his own body once every 3 months anyway. Lin could stand to get about 5 million on the open market, which is fair considering how much money it will bring the organization and the league.

Lowry's problem is with McHale and he wasn't the only one...
Bud, Martin, Dalembert also had issues with McHale a d how he "ran" the team.

Lowry mention he wanted to know the direction. Don't know if he ment he needs to start or if he thought we tanked and didn't like it.

McHale in the last month quit playing his two 7ft in 2nd halfs, and completely benched Martin. **** has got to be confusing for a team that was comfortably in the PO. Idk

I just know there is no way we wanna pay Lin 8 mil... I sure we believe NY will match and Lin will stay there, just using him for leverage on Dragic...

Also I don't think PHX will give Draic 10mil they just drafted supposedly the best passing prospect since CP3, and made an offer to Brooks

If Lin comes here, there is no reason why Dragic wouldn't give going to New York a go. With Lin and Landry Fields gone, the Knicks will need a point guard. The knicks have gone over the cap and well into luxury tax territory before.

Its rumored that Houston has signed Lin to an offer sheet. Details unknown so we'll see how it goes. I find it hard for NY to not match the offer for Lin but at the same time they already have 2 max players in Melo and Amare plus Tyson's contract. Add that to the fact that CP3 is still a possibility in the near future.

I'm OK with Lin at the right price. he's 3 years younger than Lowry or Dragic so he has time to improve his defense and cut down on his turnovers while the team is rebuilding.

If Knicks match Lin and Dragic goes to PHX and Lowry gets traded for whatever.

Anyone up for Aaron Brooks again?

Rockets still have Shaun Livingston for PG position if both Dragic and Lowry were gone. So the Samuel's trade for 12th pick has more benefits than just picking up Lamb

are you seriously suggesting shaun livingston to be our starting point guard :o

and if it really came down to it, worse case scenario why not, aaron brooks for a 1 year deal  but im sure something will come in a form of a trade. we still have a log jam at the 4 spot and the Rockets are openly trading Scola.

Rockets are serious about Lin. See latest article on Lin from Feigen.

The Rockets will have to persuade Lin, a restricted free-agent guard, to accept a contract similar to the deal Goran Dragic turned down Monday.

To Kal El: Shaun Livingston is serviceable as a backup pg (not starting pg). My above post is a reminder the rockets think well when going for a trade.

oh well if they are gone after one year then it only cost 5 million each to try them out.
