He looks so weird in another uniform. At least we've already seen him in a Dallas uni...but TOR or NYK would look strange.

It would suck to see Steve leave for a them that won't make the playoffs and that's why I want to see him in New York.

They get Nash, they'll make a move to get a SF (apparently one of Iguodala, Gay, Batum, Kirilenko) I would have to say that in the weak east they're likely then a playoff team.

Iguodala and Gay seem to be unrealistic, what would they give up for them? Batum is heading to Minnesota or Portland and Kirilenko, while being a solid role player, won't put you over the top.

PG: Steve Nash / Jerryd Bayless
SG: DeMar DeRozan / Terrence Ross
SF: Andrei Kirilenko / James Johnson
PF: Andre Bargnani / Ed Davis
C: Jonas Valanciunas / Amir Johnson

Last years playoff teams:

1. Chicago
2. Miami
3. Indiana
4. Boston
5. Atlanta
6. Orlando
7. New York
8. Philadelphia

Of these eight teams, seven would be better than Toronto. Orlando will trade Howard so count them out. That's one playoff spot remaining for: Washington, Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Toronto (maybe Detroit, I like what they are doing).

Is this Nash lead team really better than:

PG: John Wall / vet
SG: Bradley Beal / Jordan Crawford / Roger Mason
SF: Trevor Ariza / Chris Singelton / Jan Vesely
PF: Nene / Trevor Booker / Andray Blatche
C: Emeka Okafor / Kevin Seraphin

or

PG: Brandon Jennings / Beno Udrih
SG: Monta Ellis / Mike Dunleavy
SF: Luc Richard Mbah A Moute / Carlos Delfino
PF: Ersan Ilyasova / John Henson
C. Samuel Dalembert / Drew Gooden

or

PG: Deron Williams
SG: Joe Johnson
SF: Gerald Wallace
PF: Kris Humphries
C: Brook Lopez

I know, a lot can happen in the NBA but I can't se how Toronto is better than these teams.

Well I was gonna say two spots up for grabs but, with Brooklyn's deal with Joe Johnson, it's one spot. Really liking that trade for Brooklyn. Solid at the 1/2/3 spot. Just need another PF/C and they're a top 4 team in the east.

Orlando is a mess right now with Howard and their search for a GM/Coach. Atlanta is going tank mode.

Our only hope is if Nash takes Bargnani, Derozan's game to a level near god mode. All star level won't cut it anymore in this new AL east I call the Atlantic Division.

If Toronto signs steve nash, they could then conceivably have 17Mil in capspace after subsequent moves are made (Calderon trade to unload his contract which they're looking at, + amnestying Amir or Kleiza). I think they would then spend most of that on Batum or absorb a large contract in a trade for a SF. Signing Nash (if they can) won't be the final move they make.

Surprised top see knicks in the lead for Nash, but the last thing I read makes sense of it - Mrs. ex-Nash lives in NYC with the kids.

So BC just spent too much on a spare shooting guard .... nice move, though.

I think the Knicks are giving up way too much here, not as bad as they did with melo but still foolish.

Nash issued a statement once the deal was done, and here it is in its entirety (via ESPN.com):

“For the last 8 seasons I’ve been blessed to play for a team and a city that has embraced me and that I have come to call home. This is a tough business and the only thing constant in life is change.

“After talking with (owner) Robert (Sarver) and (president of basketball operations) Lon (Babby) we’ve agreed that it’s time for both of us to move in new directions. I approached them and asked if they would be willing to do a sign and trade deal with L.A. because it is very important to me to stay near my children and family.

“They were very apprehensive and didn’t want to do it. Fortunately for me, they reconsidered. They saw that they were able to get assets for their team that will make them better, assets they would not have otherwise had and it made sense for them to do a deal that helps their team get better.

“I couldn’t be more grateful to the organization and Robert in particular. I know how hard this was for him and that fact that he was able to help me and my family in this way … it means a lot and says a lot about his character. I will never forget this gesture. Above and beyond.

“The Phoenix Suns are an amazing organization and fans should be excited about their future. I hope the Suns win a championship some day soon for all the amazing fans and wonderful people in the organization.”

I just don't know what to feel when I see him in a Lakers uniform. Is it raining?

Just saw this quote from @azsports on twitter:

Steve Nash on ESPNLA 710 AM: "I'm dying to win (a championship). I wanna win one for me, I wanna win one for my teammates."

This really bothers me. I realize that he's just speaking in athlete cliches, but I used to like Nash so much in part because he was above that. When he gave a quote, it was usually somewhat thought-out and meaningful. This is total BS. You want to win a championship for your teammates? Yeah, because you've been through the fire so many times with Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum. What teammates? He's literally never practiced with this team or put on the uniform. Outside of playing with Kobe and maybe Gasol in All-Star games, has he ever played with anyone currently on the Lakers? Is Barnes still there? What's this "gotta do it for my teammates" nonsense? Most of them already have multiple rings, and again, they've never played with you! They're not your brothers in arms, they're some guys you vaguely know.

Well I successfully stuffed my face with enough Independence Day food and drink to induce a coma as soon as I saw the headline about Nash, figuring I'd deal with the stages of grief today. But damn I wish I could push it back another 24 hours...then another...

I wasn't even attached necessarily to having Nash play for us this year, but the Laker thing is EXTREMELY painful. Laker and Spur hate is as deeply engrained in me as Suns love, and I'm sorry but I can't 100% separate the Lakers I hate from the player in Nash that I love. I guess I just always felt like he felt the same competitive fire, maybe not quite as much hatred, but definitely the rivalry, against the Lakers.

And him asking this of Suns management is basically unprecedented. Why would a WC and more specifically Pacific Division team give the final championship piece to the Lakers??

I know there's going to be a big element of "he deserved a shot, he gave us everything", but I'm at least going to need more time until I can accept this...
