I don't know much about Dyson, but 8 Ks in 24 IP at AA doesn't sound awesome.

He probably get balls hit on the ground. Keep our defense happy or something like that.

Signed for 600k in 2010. Had TJS and missed all of 2011. Used to have a fastball in the upper 90s but after surgery hes low to mid 90s now. Gets a tone of groundball outs. Basically a bullpen version of Alvarez

He has an ERA of 0.75 since being promoted from Dunedin, allows about a base runner per inning, throws 92-96 and can clock the occasional 98. Fourth round pick in 2010 out of U South Carolina.

8 K in 24 IP at the AA level won't translate too well at the majors no matter how many GBs he's getting. Don't get this call up.

No wonder he got the Alvarez comparison.

Even Alvarez struck out some guys in AA (6.75 K/9)...this will really be something to watch.

At the very least it's giving Sensi a subplot for the next video. Have Hitler try to make sense of this as he scorns the Gestapo.

He's been effective at two levels w/o many K's, however, the majors are a whole new animal. He does get alot of groundballs. I don't understand why he doesn't get more K's if his command is as good as reported combined with his mid-90's fastball.

[quoteSam Dyson is making a statement in his recent play on the diamond. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 15 innings pitched, and has had his season ERA down to 0.90 in 2012. Dyson has a 3.5 to 1 ground ball to fly ball advantage and often shatters opponents’ bats due to his commanding velocity. Dyson was a starter at South Carolina, but his past injuries/surgeries have resulted in his move to the bullpen and this may end up being blessing in disguise to all parties. This kid has a closer mentality, as he has all the swag to carry that role going forward and has a 97MPH fastball to boot. [/quote]

Looks like Farrell just found his new go-to guy for a runner on third, less than 2 outs, late in a tied game.

I still don't understand why they don't give Carreno a shot in relief again. I think his lack of a 3rd pitch hurts him at the big league level and he's proven to be an effective reliever. I understand starters carry more value but it seems like they should just go ahead and put him in the role he'd be more successful in.

Sounds like Farrell plans to use him in low-leverage situations. He was quoted as wanting to use Dyson when the Jays are down by a couple runs and they need a pitcher to shutdown the opposition and get the offense back out there.

I now have no idea whats the Jays are doing with their bullpen. Sam Dyson? I have to think the likes of Carreno and Beck are far superior options at this point. Both must have said or done something to get on the organizations bad side.

Maybe we'll get pleasantly surprised with Dyson, but my expectations are low.
