Could Favors start next year?
I know the Jazz experimented with Favors in the lineup toward the end of the year, is there any way he makes his way into the starting unit in 2012-13? I've been waiting very patiently for this guy to get more minutes. He's a star in the making.

Yes and the next order of business is extending Millsap's contract, than Paul would be more willing to fill the 6th man role next year. It makes too much **** sense for KOC not to do it.
Remember Al's contract comes off the books, I am convinced we will keep him through next season even though I have mixed feelings, we aren't getting **** Gasol for him get real, also Mo Williams off the books as well. So we will have some cap room to retain these young guys down the line. Also we can frontload the extension with Millsap.

Re: Could Favors start next year?
Yes he could but is he ready to start? NO!!!!!!!!
His scoring was aweful last year and this was with little defensive attention and many easy baskets. I shutter to think about what he will do offensively with a more important role. His shooting numbers from different spots on the court ( 3-9 feet, 10 - 16 ft, ect...) were way worse than andrew bynum's was during his second year. Yep that bad.
And many people kept complaining last year how inconsistent and unassertive he was for most of the regular season so I dought he changes that much between now and next season. His playoff performance changed nothing in my mind from what I saw during the regular season because his defensive wasn't game changing because the spurs skill scored in the post whenever they wanted to plus his offense was once again absymal.
I could be wrong but he just does not look ready yet based on last year and also based on how he showed very little improvement from his rookie season. Lets see what he does with 23 mpg first before we talk about 30 + mpg.

He should start but minuets should slowly graduate so he can adjust to the game. I have to say his offense is much improved as well as passing compared from the beginning of the year to the end. His game alone on the defensive end at the start of the game will create pace for the team.

He should start and get 35 minutes a game.
I don't know any team in the league that doesn't beleive their best player shouldn't be starting, or playing the most minutes of anyone on the team.

He needs to stop committing stupid fouls, he was constantly in foul trouble last year.

Yes. If Al and Paul are both on the team when the season starts I expect there to be rioting.

IMO yes. 4th year in the league next season, showed potential to be a great player. I think the Jazz should try starting him already especially if they're gonna move Al Jefferson in the near future.

It's actually only his third year, which is even better.

I would guess he'll be starting by the end of February.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Given your intelligence level, are you able to function in society? Can you carry out basic tasks such as navigating to work, and balancing a bank account?
That's really what everyone needs to know. Give the people what they want, reapaman.
Dought it...
Seriously though, Favors has to start. He is the superstar everyone keeps saying we need to get in trades, he just needs the time on the court to develop into that superstar. He is a defensive prodigy, but he can't learn to play defense without fouling if he doesn't play against the best in the league. He needs that time out there.
I can't wait to see how this team looks after a good training camp and hopefully a big Al trade.

Not sure where you got this from, but I would love to see it. That being said, your reasoning for Favors not starting is comparing him to Andrew Bynum... one of the best centers in the league. Anyone who is expecting Favors to be our leading scorer is going to be sorely disappointed for a few years at least. Enes in all likelihood will outscore Favors.
Scoring averages will most likely be...
Burks
Hayward
Enes
Favors
He won't start because of his offense, he'll start because of his defense.
Anyone interested in actual statistic data on Favors should check out this link to David Locke's breakdown.

Re: Could Favors start next year?
Well, Reapaman makes some valid points. I just think he's overly polarized. Maybe in reaction to folks that are overly polarized the other direction in here.
I think the truth about Favors is somewhere in the middle. We will likely see 14, 9, 1.5 out of him this year. Not bad numbers at all. Not Dwight Howard numbers, but, certainly starting quality numbers.
And he'll build on those numbers as he matures. He's only 21 years old still. Not even close to his prime yet.

Got it from hoop data. Look at Bynums shooting location numbers for 2007 and look at Favors last year. Also factor in how many shot attempts they had from each spot. Not even close. I compared him to bynum because he is always the reference point people use when aurguing that extremely raw bigs can develop a strong offensive game. You can compare Favors to any big that turned out good offensively, no ones 2nd year numbers was as bad as Favors is. Also look how overall (Favors whole rookie season not just the jazz ones), Favors numbers did not improve much at all from his rookie season.

Andrew Bynum

Its all right there clear as day. I'm not making this stuff up. And his defense is being overrated and doesn't even come close to making up for him being a liability offensively but I won't go any farther into that now. And no offense but I don't really care much for david locke. A lot of players numbers look better as the year goes on but that doesn't mean that overall when you look at the whole body of work that your going to see alot of improvement from the year before. And looking at the numbers, wheres the real improvement?

Favors' defense is overrated? Holy hell, what more do you want from a guy who plays defense?

Not saying he's won't be elite defensively in the future but guys are acting like he is tyson chandler defensively already. He's got a ways to go to get even close to that level and he certainly isn't at the level to outweight his horrible offense. Even Favors Blocks per game porpotionally (taking account mpg) were the same as Jeffersons and they had the same d-rating. Plus he fouled too much during the season.
Just chill on Favors a little and let him develop at his own pace.

I think he's a little overrated on defense myself.
Got the tools to be great though. Will need to learn to use them.

I think this is accurate. He has the potential to be great, but he's not going to get better as quickly sitting on the bench than if he's playing.
I'd much rather he be given the set of responsibilities and expectations that come with starting NOW so he can learn to deal with them.
