Take a moment to look at the other PGs, their age, contract figures, and then the FAs still left. Jameer is 30 years old and is on the decline? The only reason this guy doesn't put up 18/10 is SVG. Jameer's pass-to-assist numbers are great, but you don't see them on the stat sheet.
As in 10 assists a game? Now you're just taking the defending of Nelson too far. You're basically calling him an elite PG. He is and will always be a 5-6 assists a game type of PG at best. SVG has nothing to do with it. He could score 18 on a losing team.
Steve Nash averaged way less than 10 assists per game until he was 29 years old at which point he started averaging 10+. I see Jameer going up to 8-10 APG over the next 3 years if Dwight is gone.
You must be Nelson's number one fan to be saying this kind of stuff. You're telling me Nelson's assist numbers will almost double WITHOUT Dwight? That's a pretty crazy statement to make. I would be thrilled if his assist numbers stay the same without the best and one of the more athletic bigs in the game. Without Dwight, our perimeter players get locked down even more and there will be less freebies at the basket. How do you figure his assist numbers go up that much without Dwight?
And please stop comparing Nelson to Nash. They're completely different players. Players like Nash and Kidd have the superior ability to see plays before they unfold, are both taller, are both passers, and they don't need speed to play well. They have everything going for them when it comes to aging PGs in the NBA. Nelson relies on his athleticism to score AND pass. As he gets older, he's going to get worse, not better.
I think that stretch where Nelson was playing hard for his contract towards the end of regular season has clouded your judgement.
