Not exactly. If we decided to just keep Howard and make him play out 2012-2013 and we can't moved Hedo, Duhon or JRich, we would still have about 32 million in cap space for the summer of 2013. With the FAs available, we would probably sign at least 2 max deals or 1 max and a couple of mid level players.

Of course if we move Hedo, Duhon and JRich, that would give us enough for 3 max players and may give us a chance to even resign JJ.

Then why would we sign Nelson to a three year deal? We should have either let him go or offered a nice contract for one year.

You obviously didn't see my break down of our cap space for 2013.

Those numbers are wrong due to cap holds.

Actually Rob saved the Magic about 2 million with the new Nelson deal. He was set to make 8 million next season. Now he will only make 6 million. Sure he added a few more years to the deal, but 6 million a year for a 13 to 15 point, 6 to 7 assist guy is pretty good.

I forgot that year one of a max contract is less then $15M. I keep remembering Amar'e Stoudemire getting $20M his first year.

It depends. Howard's next deal for example would be 5 years, 120 million, but his contract would start at about 18 million. Bynum's new deal would start at about 14 million. Iggy, Ellis, Smith, etc would all get something like 12 to 14 million a year, not the full max IMO. Paul of course will also get the full max and start out what Howard will start out I believe.

Howard's next deal with bird rights would be 5 years $100M not $120M.

The fact that there isn't a single link, source or tweet about ANY other team wanting, going after or showing interest in Jameer says it all. Show me one and I'll back track my statement.

I just hope his money isn't 3 years, $19M. Please tell me that ain't so.

and like 4 years 75 million without bird rights... so its like a 5 million dollar pay cut

Was Rome built in 1 day? no. Was the Mayans civilization built in 1 day? No.

a good portion of people in here lack patience. Im fine with Henny taking his time. i rather have him take his time and do it right then take 5 mins and get it wrong and repeat.

I thought a max deal without bird rights was 4 years $58M?

rcklsscognition wrote:I was not comparing Jameer to Nash in any way other than that Nash who is deemed a HOF'er was at 7-8 assists for the majority of his career until he was the same age as Jameer. Then his stats jumped dramatically to well over 10 a game. Showing that he is not old at 30 despite what people are saying about the three year deal and him being on the decline.

Jameer is a very good pick and roll player who has the speed and handle to drive off the pick, the shot to hit a jumper, and the only thing he lacks is the height to get a pass over the defense in tight spots.

I blame SVG for Nelson's mediocre assist numbers because he runs so many plays through Hedo and relies heavily on the elbow set which takes the ball out of Jameer's hands often.

I wish you were right because I would love to see such a professional excel and prove doubters wrong, but in the same breath i really don't think it's likely he'll make a jump like Nash. His weaknesses will only get exploited as he gets older. 30-33 is not terribly old for many NBA players, but I think it's a bit different for a short PG who relies on his speed/quickness. He will be a step slower, he will not jump as high. I do not blame SVG. I've seen Nelson miss open players way too often to know he is not good enough to average near a double double. But hey, if you think this will happen, then good for you and I'll likely give you your props if it plays out like that... just remember to collect because it will be the call of the decade.

I'm pretty sure it will be 120 million since his last contract was 90 to 95 million. Of course with the new CBA, I have no idea how they would do it. 100 million would be go backwards I would think or at least not enough increases.
