No those contracts are not allowed even if Lopez and Hump wanted to take them. Max contracts have limitations on the amount and requirements on the years given.

The problem is Lopez or Humphries are NOT worth $10 mil per season each. Humphries being paid more than BBD would be an insult and take some of that fire out of BBD. Don't do it, Mr. Devos. Don't do any deal with the Nets. Any other team is fine, preferrably the Hawks. I like Teague and Horford.

Humphries could get a huge deal, but Lopez is BYC, so only 50% of his contract counts on the trade.

Both them and their agents would have to agree to a one year deal. With all the money going around this year I think these guys want long-term money. Like can you see a scenario where Indiana decides not to match Portland's max offer to Hibbert, and then offers Lopez 55 million over 4 years?

anyway, after shameless promotion, ****. I do not want the Nets crap. I don't mind taking certain players from them in a 3 way deal but not straight up

We should just go Bynum/draft picks for Howard and call it a day. Sign him to an extension as soon as he gets over here. Play out the season with what we have and then try to move Duhon, Hedo and JRich before the trade deadline for expirings or during the draft for picks.

This gives us a ton of cap space to use in the summer of 2013 with Bynum, Nelson, BBD, Nicholson, Quinn, 2013 picks on the roster. Maybe even give us enough to bring back JJ as well.

Well KH did average 14/11 last year and is a young player. He will get at least 8 million per.

A - I doubt the lakers care anymore about acquiring dwight anymore and are probably sick of trying since they know he wont sign an extension anyways
B - They dont have any tradable draft picks anymore after the nash trade

Nelson - 6M
Davis - 6M
JRich - 6M
Hedo - 12M (will be waived if not traded so he will only count 6M towards the cap)
Duhon - 4M (will be waived if not traded so he will only count 1.5M towards the cap)
QRich - 3M (will probably take his player out)
Nicholson - 1M
Quinn - 1M

Overall - 28M cap for 2013

So that leaves us 32 million in cap space for 2013 even if we don't rid ourselves of Duhon, JRich and Hedo, which will be easier to do at the trade deadline or before the 2013 draft. If we can do that, we save ourselves around 14 million in cap space, moving that 28 million number down to 14 million, giving us 46 million in cap space. That means we could sign 3 max players if we want and it so happens 2013 is going to be a big year for FAs (Ellis, Iggy, Smith, Howard, Bynum, Paul, etc).

Again knowing this, it baffles my mind why Howard wants to just up and leave. He could be playing with Paul/Iggy or Ellis/Iggy so on and so forth in 2013-2014 if he waits.

Thank you for posting this. I was shocked at the negative reaction to the Nelson signing, because the Magic will still have tons of space, plus Nelson is a great trade chip at that salary.

I was with you until you said Hawks. I do not want to see Howard in the same division or conference. Horford is solid, but not worth it.

I will say until it sinks in, we are NOT going to get a superstar free agent for a long time. We HAVE to build through the draft. Look up the free agent lists for 2013, 2014, and even 2015. There aren't many great names that would be willing to come here (for example, LeBron, Wade, CP3, Dirk, Kobe). The great young talent in this league is locked up already (Rose, Westbrook, Durant, Love, Aldridge). Draft, Draft, Draft. Eventually, it'll sink in.

Uggg.. Does it bother anyone else a little that Steve sold out to the Lakers?

Other than the fact that he is closer to his kids; I just felt this totally goes against what he seemed to stand for.

(I put this in the other thread too, but I figured I might get a response faster in this one.)

Nash did things the RIGHT way. didn't complain. Didn't make demands. He'll get a standing O when he first plays in Phoenix.

We don't have as much space as calculated in that post. Add about $8 mil in cap holds and it doesn't look nearly as good.

Signing Jameer means we are in "win now"mode. We are trying to win as many games as we can next season. We're not interested in developing young players as much as we are tyring to plug in mid-level vets who can help us win the 10th seed of the playoffs... Oh wait... there is no 10th seed. LOL.

that would work short term wise but who do we sign to fill in the depth and bench? sutton, Wayns westbrook would be good on the bench but other than that?

We could use our MLE for a player and sign him to a one year contract. We would suck during that year, but we'd get a high draft pick and some serious cap space.

i think it would work as long as somehow we can sign Curry and Pekovic and maybe a nice option behind them.

Steve Nash is one of the guys I like the most in the NBA. He is a great player and a great professional.

Return to Orlando Magic
