The championship series against Miami pretty much proved that. And whether or not Bynum would be the main option in a Lakers rebuilding phase doesn't matter. He's a 24 year old that is the 2nd best center in the league, trading him for a 34 year old already declining Dirk would not be a smart move.

With the way the league is, it's probably better to try to win now when you're close, than to assume your young star will stay with you in the long term. Of course, if you can do both (OKC), then that's gravy.

Chances are either Bynum will be wearing another uniform when he's 30.

Now, I think Bynum is a better FIT for the Lakers as it's constructed, but I'd be more comfortable with a team built around Dirk FOR THIS SEASON (not for the future) than around Bynum.

But I don 't see any way that OKC would trade a 22 year old Harden straight up for a 33 year old Kobe.

If I were the Thunder I would absolutely trade Harden for Kobe. They would have a sick lineup for the next few years to win a championship or two.

Bynum isn't "better" than Dirk. But Bynum's trade value is incredibly high due to his age and the position he plays.

lol @ the NBA

It's not that he couldn't play as the only superstar on the mavs. He did that many years, but now it's like they are not even trying to help him. He's too old for rebuilding and the mavs are just wasting his last 2-3 years.

Bass, Jeff Green, fillers if needed, 2013 1st, 2013 bobcats second rounder(~30overall) for Dirk.
If Dirk would want to come to Boston I think Dallas would accept that deal.
No way Cuban sends Dirk to the heat or something.. Dirk would probably go East if traded

That Celtics first round pick isn't going to be that high.

Sixers will offer
Brand's expiring contract
Jrue Holiday
Arnette Moultrie
2013 1st Round Pick
2015 1st Round Pick

for Dirk and any trash the Mavs want to include

Sixers then use the MLE on Sessions

start up next season like this:

Sessions
Turner
Iguodala
Nowitzki
Hawes

I think the Nuggets would be a good fit, they have a huge trade exception from the Nene deal and dont need to give up a lot (Gallinari, maybe include a third team).

Houston OUT: Martin, 3 of Patterson/M.Morris/White/T.Jones
Houston IN: Gasol

LA OUT: Gasol
LA IN: Nowitzki

Dallas OUT: Nowitzki
Dallas IN: Martin, 3 of Patterson/M.Morris/White/T.Jones
-----------------------------------------------------------
Why for Houston?

They stockpiled assets to go after a big name and they already tried to trade for Gasol with a better package. Pretty sure the Rockets would agree. Martin is useless after they drafted J.Lamb. They also have like 10 PF on their roster, so at least two of them can easily go.

Why for LA?

They get the better player, who is also a better fit next to Bynum. And of course, Nash and Dirk have a strong connection.

Why for Dallas?

They get a expiring in Martin, who can still contribute for them in his last year. They need a SG badly, so that might make sense. On top, they get some nice young pieces moving forward.

I think, that would be the most likely scenario if a trade goes down. Of course, Houston could make the same offer without LA. But I doubt, Dirk would consider going to the Rockets.

What was the option for Dallas? Keep old farts like Kidd and Terry for lard dollars? Face it...the title they won was sort of a fluke thing and that was that. They played GREAT ball down the stretch and the NBA/LeBron was weak enough for Dallas to sneak in and win it all.

Dallas had a plan. It didn't work and it sucks for them but it still beats signing a bunch of old guys to long-term deals. They need a good backup plan here...and I don't know what that will be. It may be time to re-build, but Dirk will decline a trade to any team outside of a few. Honestly....maybe the best bet is to trad Dirk in a 3-way trade where you send him to Miami, Bosh goes to a 3rd team (Bosh does not have a no-trade clause), and the 3rd team sends Dallas some young players and/or picks.
