free agency

Post#1 » by shazam » Fri Jul 6, 2012 6:25 pm

Cavs are sitting like the Browns and doing nothing in free agency. I understand they do not want to overpay but they do have to spend a certain amount on salaries and I have to assume they are not near that. Does anyone know the bare minimum they have to spend on salaries? Looking at hoops hype there at 41 million but Waiters and Zeller are not factored into that total. Also if they end of givinf Gee a raise that will add as well. Its just crazy to see other teams like Minnesota throwing cash everywhere. I trust management and hopefully they will mix a few vets in with a bunch of young players.

The cap minimum is 75% of the salary cap. Not only does Cleveland need to sign their rookies, but Gee also needs to be resigned, and there has also been talk of Cleveland and Jonny Flynn having mutual interest. Plus, I believe you simply need to finish the season above the cap minimum, so Cleveland could be big players at the trade deadline.

p.s. hoopshype.com's salary information is not very accurate, shamsports.com does a much better job
Well at least we're not Detroit!

pretty sure Davis counts towards the cap floor also

I'd rather spend nothing instead of overpaying a overrated role player SF.

Just wanted to confirm that the CBA's amnesty provision merely removes the number from salary cap consideratios. The amount is still due and still counts when calculating whether a team meets the salary floor.

It, along with the salary floor itself, comes out of the intent by the NBA and the PA to ensure that players receive at least the minimum BRI threshhold...

Oh someone will take it, just not Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul*, or Stephen Curry*...

Instead, you can max out 2nd tier players like Andre Iguodala, Monta Ellis, Josh Smith, Kevin Martin, James Harden, etc... see: Larry Hughes.

My guess would be Marvin Williams and Nikola Pekovic @ around 8 million each respectively... Sad days...

Michael Redd, swing & miss. Ray Allen, swing & miss. Joe Johnson, afraid to compete. End result, Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones...

Marvin Williams can be our new Drew Gooden.

The Cavs have the space next year for sure for 2 max contracts barring they do pretty much nothing this year and maybe more if they trade Andy at the trade deadline. Waltons 6 million is gone and i doubt at this point they pick up Casspi's 3 million option. I would not be so sure to say no one will come here, Gilbert has been building up the area with the Casino and possible Lake frony projects as well, and you factor in Irving and ,IF and its a big IF, Waiters,Thompson and Zeller show to be more than just marginal players this team could be a serious threat in a hurry, but it all depends on how Waiters,Thompson, and Zeller develop in 1-2 years.
