How old would MJ have to be until you could beat him?

Speed & quickness is incredibly important in a 1 on 1 game. MJ's reaction time had slowed a bit by 40, and this would be an issue for him. Loose rebounds that need to be chased down would likely go in my favor even with MJ's height advatage. MJ had a better midrange shot than me, but I was a better 3pt shooter. MJ would have to guard me closely, even deep, otherwise I would just load up on 3's all game long. Also, with him being forced to guard me closely on the periemter, if I get even a little bit of an angle on MJ, I'm blowing right by to the rim. Defensively, MJ's post game would be my biggest problem. His ability to create space, and superior post moves would be a load to handle. Even still, MJ's shot was bit off by 40.

MJ wasn't stronger than me at 40. He did have the height advantage, but I had the quickness edge. His post game would be the biggest threat, but it had dropped off a bit by the time he hit 40.

This would be the battle for the ages.

Let's see...I've got pretty decent size (6' 3" 225 pounds) so I don't think he could dominate me in the post, but my lateral speed is awful and I have no vertical leap (which is why I play a sport where jumping is basically illegal, lol). Also a very spotty jump shot and a weak left hand.

But I'm 21 and he's 48...so maybe in 20 years or so when I'm in my late 30's/early 40's and he's pushing 70 I might have a shot.

Haha no worries, I play college rugby. It's not actually "illegal" to jump but you lose your rights if you leave your feet except for a few specific situations like fielding kicks or if you're a lineout jumper (which I'm not).

I love the sport but it basically requires the opposite physical attributes from basketball

I've always wanted to play but the problem is I shy away from contact lol. I was the fast db who would fly to the ball carrier but only to try to make an arm tackle or slow the guy down and the wr who only ran deep routes and never over the middle.

Speaking only for myself, never. Just like Jordan, I can't defeat Father Time either. As Jordan ages, so do I. I couldn't beat him as a teen. In my 20's, 30's, or to date, 40's. He is winning in his 50's, 60's, and 70's.
