Free agent Ray Allen left his meeting with the Miami Heat on Thursday night without giving them an answer on their contract offer and is torn on whether to leave the Boston Celtics, sources told ESPN.com on Friday.

I think this is good news...I like the idea of Ray and Terry leading the 2nd unit to LOTS of Wins--!

This is the same Brian Windhorst that (mis)informed us that Ray Allen's choice was down to the Heat and Clippers. Gotta love ESPN.

until Chris Broussard comes out and says Ray Allen to Heat via his sources (LeBron) then I fully expect Ray Allen to re-sign with the Celtics. Leverage brought him a no-trade clause which is probably the ONLY element to the deal outside of wanting at least a 2 year deal. If he gets the 2-3 years plus a no-trade clause or a big trade kicker then he's back in Green. hands down

If some poster had "inside" info he/she would be better served to just keep it to themselves rather then get hammered for proof one may not be able to give...it's a lose..lose deal even if they are an honest poster......now if they are are lying .....that speaks for itself.......

ESPN is late on everything the next time someone from ESPN that actually breaks some news will be the first time. You have guys on here saying Ray Allen is going to say in Boston.

I pretty much outline for you Ray Allen thought process. Heck I even said Ray left Miami without signging a contract that right there should tell you that Ray is staying. Dude didn't even take his family on the trip. I don't know about you guys but I'm going to take my wife with me if I'm really thinking about moving.

But that's what the boss (Lebron) told him...I find it really funny that Windhorst went from a Cleveland beat guy to an ESPN Heat reporter when Lebron jumped ship. The guy seems one step removed from a PR rep for the guy.

You may be correct. But as a long-time fan of Ray Allen, he doesn't seem like the guy to do things just for "leverage". He must have been genuinely interested in joining the Heat. Also, the Heat aren't known for throwing away players, they are known as a "family-type" organization which has held to be quite true in recent years. I doubt he's afraid of getting traded from Miami. I still give Boston the edge of course though, they have home court advantage :D

The Insiders from ESPN, CBSsports, Yahoo, etc etc all have sources from within the NBA player pool and front office pool. They even have insiders from the Ownership pool. Regardless, none of that guarantees they will break stories. The REAL reason they report "rumors" from "inside sources" is simply so fans click on their website. That's what it's alllll about. Ratings, internet clicks, etc. If your Marc Spears from Yahoo and you speak to your source from Miami and he says Ray Allen left without a deal i n place then you're going to report it even though it means absolutely nothing (just using that as an example).

So as long as they don't go overboard then it's all good. Take it for what it's worth.

In a weird way I value my inside sources and other realgm posters sources more because we can all post what we hear without having to worry about getting fired

If I hear Josh Smith is on Ainge's list then I will post it on here. I could care less. Marc Spears cannot because if it doesn't happen then he loses credibility (even though he might hear it too)....Those guys play it safe ALWAYS.

Anybody who watched the post-game interviews after game 5 of the Finals in Boston knows where Ray Allen's heart is. Before the offseason even started, he showed (although not in so many words) that he clearly wished to stay in Boston. After this round of contract offers and PR fireworks, Boston is still the owner of Ray's heart and now also of an extra dose of financial happiness.

I don't have a source nor am I willing to make one up, but I can almost guarantee that Allen is staying put. I'm not even sure the no-trade clause or the generous monetary offer were strictly necessary to make him stay.

I agree on this 100%.

I think the money offered Ray is a show of respect as much as it is a judgment on his worth.

The Celtics badly want Ray to re-sign (and I'm sure they'd love sticking it to Miami in the process).

The only reason he would leave is if he feels insulted by the notion of not being a starting SG playing 35+ minutes a night.

He likes the Northeast. His UConn roots run deep and when he signed with Boston, it was like coming home (even though he went to HS in SC). His son's medical issues are paramount, and he is happy with the care he is getting.

As far as "ring-chasing," the Celtics were a half away from going to the Finals. Only a pu55y would leave the Celtics for the Heat, everything else being equal. I don't think Ray is a pu55y. The Rondo-Ray stuff is overblown. These guys are pros.

So the only thing Miami has to offer is some sort of guarantee that Ray will start and/or finish games. I think Ray is using Miami as leverage; I think there's merit to the notion that he met with Miami in order to get a no-trade clause out of DA.

Rich Levine ‏@rich_levine

Source says that Ray Allen's meeting w/ the Heat went well. Miami said to be very intrigued by Allen's "intense hatred for Mario Chalmers."

I thought that was great....I can't stand Chalmers myself......

Didn't Jeff Van Gundy call Chalmers the "most chewed out player in the NBA?"

He does carry himself like a little douche, but I like his game.

To be honest, as a Heat fan, I have no idea how we're even in this. Literally the ONLY advantage we have is a better chance at a ring, or the whole Rondo issue is much more serious than everyone realizes. It makes no sense.
