Here is more info, tying back to my previous post:

The deterioration of Ray Allen's relationship with Rajon Rondo played a significant factor in his leaving for Miami, several sources tell Y!
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 7, 2012

As Y! had reported, Allen was angry w/ near-trade to Memphis at deadline. Too much acrimony to get past. Off to Miami for less money.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 7, 2012

Allen, tired of being offered as trade bait by Danny Ainge in each of the last two years, was also being offered trade security by the Celtics, either in the form of a trade kicker or a no trade clause.
Allen Chooses Heat - BostonHerald.com - Celtics Insider Blog

"I wouldn’t be surprised, but I don’t want to go into this season, like I have in past seasons, worrying about whether I was going to be traded or not. At this point we want to ride it out, take this thing to the house, and not have the instability of knowing whether today or tomorrow something is going to happen. For all of us, you deal with that over the course of your career, but wherever I end up after this summer, that has to be the No. 1 mandate. At this time I owe it to my family to be ultimately selfish, because I’ve been a very unselfish team player, and I’ll always do that. But when it comes to myself and my family, I have to make sure that I don’t rock their worlds or put them off kilter in any fashion."
--Ray Allen, heading into FA

"‘The one thing that bothers me the most is guys taking big pay cuts for a year to go down there and try to win a championship,’ Bird told ESPN. ‘There’s a lot of guys who like to ride the coattails of the best and they’ll take a pay cut just to have an opportunity to win that ring.’"

Come to think of it, this is much bigger than Boston.

You will not find a more respected player in the NBA than Ray Allen. That is all up in smoke as well. This is now Ray's legacy..all for a chance to sniff LeBron's jock.

my biggest hope is at trade deadline they trade him to the raptors.

a close second would be him getting herpies from a beach skank and giving it to his whole family

(yeah, i'm not mad a ray leaving, he could have retired or signed for same or more, but to sign for half is just a big FU ray.)

We don't really have any precedent of this happening so we don't know how it's going to affect Ray's chances.

Name one # in that rafter that left as FA like this. Actually don't bother you can't.

I don't think Ray's number will get retired after this, but the major reason there are no #'s in the Celtics' rafters that left as a FA is that all their championships up until 2008 are from before the free agency era. The reason Ray Allen probably won't have his number retired is that he was only on the Celtics for a few years before he chose to leave as a free agent. If Paul Pierce had left in this manner, his number would still be retired 100% guaranteed, after 14 years of carrying the Celtics in both the regular season and the playoffs.

I haven't checked all the numbers but only Ed Macauley was with the team for five or fewer season and had his number retired and that was a different era. He was one of the first Celtics and his being traded my be more of the reason his number was retired.

Dude Bill Walton only played for the team for one year. Sure Ray only played for the team for 5 years because he just turned down a two year extension. He helped end an epic championship droubt if he retired in Boston he would have easily had his number retired but it doesn't matter he turned his back on it all to be part of Lebron's possy.

At some point the celtics needs to stop retiring numbers. The only one set in stone right now is PP. Allen number should not be retired here and it is up for debate if KGs should be retired here either.

Numbers 1, 2, 21, 22, 23, and 31 need to be reinstated. No disrespect to those people but I think the C's were a little too wild and free with retiring those.

Actually, the argument could be made for every team to make every number available but still keep the players "in the rafters" in acknowledgement.

Anyway, someone take Ray's 20 right now just because. I'd sign a D-Leaguer to wear it, put him in the last 30 seconds of every game, win or lose.

Bill Walton's jersey isn't retired by us though.

Sense of entitlement, arrogance, how they formed.

Obviously I would have preferred if Ray didn't go to the Heat but hey, it's not a perfect world and it's his choice after all :dontknow:

Very very poor decision by Allen.
He has the chance to become an all time Celtic great and instead in a few years he'll be a heat footnote.

Miller looked like he was 87 years old in the playoffs yet he was hurting the thunder. People are delusional if they don't think this makes the team better.

With Allen leaving celtics have no shooting guards and cannot sign anybody else becasue of the way the CBA is set up. Not sure what planet Allen lives in that he does not think he will be booed when he comes here.

Opposing teams obviously didn't respect Miller or Battier, and they got burned for it. Teams are going to make sure Ray doesn't just stand at the 3pt line and drill threes. You'd have to be delusional to think that any team would let that happen.

lol exactly.

People aren't gonna leave Ray Allen just to help out on a LBJ drive.

Exactly; Ray barely ever gets any shots in which he gets to take his time and step into it unless it is in transition or off an offensive rebound. Especially in the 76ers series; they wouldn't budge and face-guarded him the whole entire game, even when Paul Pierce or Rajon Rondo drove right by. Teams will make sure to find other alternatives for help.

Ray's season: GP:55 GS:0 MPG:25 PPG:9 FG%:43% 3PT%:32%

And I can see it now; game 6 or 7 of the ECF, final 2 minutes Allen drives to the basket and KG rejects Ray Ray to the floor, stares him down, and doesn't help him up. A couple possessions later and Paul Pierce makes a poster outta him and raises his arms to pump the crowd up. Dreaming.

FU Ray. 20 - 40 years from now when the reunion of the 2008 C's take center court.... your arse still gets booed. All that class and respect just flew out of the window. You are going to a yellow belly cheating organization that had inside information that bron and bosh were coming. Congrats, most NBA fans do not acknowledge the cHeat's last 'championship'. Any 'championship' they 'win' will have a nice big *. You are now part of the low class dirty crap team. Enjoy 'winning'.

Allen could have went to the grizz or clippers for more money. Instead he went to the heat for half the price as big fu parting gift to Ainge, the celtics owners and all the fans. He wanted to upset everybody in Boston by joining the most hated team in nba history and he succeeded. **** the heat and **** you Allen.

C'mon, Ray. Grow the **** up. Player who's been around as long as you doesn't remember that business is part of the game? Instead of feeling butthurt, did you ever stop to ask yourself "Why is the team trying to trade me?"

Players are traded because they aren't performing to the standard the organization expects. Nevertheless, we believed in you. That you meant just as much in the locker room as your on-court contribution. Because we did the championship together as a brotherhood and brotherhoods are supposed to have honor and integrity. And you kicked us in the nuts for half the money because you're a spiteful douche.

Fine, you stuck it to Danny and Wyc. Congrats. You also stuck it to every one of us who counted you as family and stuck it to your very legacy. You'll be remembered the rest of your life and for decades and decades afterward as a ring chaser. Congrats on erasing 16 years of sterling reputation just to sit on LeBron's lap.

Rondo and Pierce have been shopped recently, too...

You don't see them bitching and moaning about it.
