Nenad Krstic has gone through his career with good offensive rebounding numbers, but weak-looking defensive ones.
On the other hand, I recall some Nets teams where the bigs would block out for Kidd, who would take the rebounds personally and start the break.
Was Krstic perhaps a better contributor to rebounding than his numbers suggest?
And how was he in the other aspects of the game?

The finals teams (this was before Krstic) were the ones where you saw Kidd grabbing the rebound and igniting fast-breaks on his own. Kidd did it to some extent when Krstic was around, but he had gone through microfracture surgery at that point and clearly wasn't the same.
While on the Nets Krstic was a phenomenal catch and shoot player. You couldn't leave him unguarded from 15-18 feet.
In the post he was a work in progress but showed some signs of "getting it" prior to his injury. There were times when Krstic was just too timid around the basket and when his injury took what little burst of speed he had he essentially transitioned himself into a stationary jump-shooter.
Rebounding wise Krstic left a lot to be desired, he didn't have bad fundamentals but he was just slow off the ground and at a noticeable athletic disadvantage in the NBA... It was a similar thing with his post defense, there were times when you could tell the effort was there but he just wasn't mobile or strong enough to be a difference maker.

He learned rebounding from the best.

kristic was certainly not better then his numbers here... at least rebounding wise. he wasnt good on the boards at all. he was a really skilled bigman.. especially on jumpers. he didnt play very big though..and after his injuries i cant imagine that changed much

I am a HUGE fan of Nenad "Curly" Krstic, and he was probably my favorite player on the team during the VC era. But there is no doubt that both his defense and his rebounding left a ton to be desired. But I felt like up until his injury in '06, his entire game was progressing pretty well, and I think he could've been a fringe all-star caliber player for several years had he not gone down with the ACL tear. His prime was pretty much a poor man's Brook Lopez with way less post moves and (dare I say) SLIGHTLY better touch from midrange. He was on his way to a near-all star season but it the injury really set him back in a major way.

Nenad was a deadly spot up shooter and had an underrated post game. Gave effort on both sides, was a decent offensive rebounder and mostly a box out kinda guy on the other end. But yeah not the longest or most athletic dude. Lopez plays much bigger and probably has more post skills. I think the celtics were a good situation for him last year, rivers shoulda had faith, kept playin him.

Thanks, guys.
So in your eyes, he's truly bad at the defensive end of the floor, but has the potential to be quite good at the offensive end?

^He's like the stereotypical Euro big. Good on the offensive game, with a nice J and solid post game, but weak on D and rebounding. But it wasn't for a lack of trying

Pretty much. I don't know if he still has that potential, but I do know that he once did. He's shown some flashes of being the Nenad of old since his injury, but nothing consistent and maybe it's because he hasn't had as prominent a role anywhere he's been since leaving the Nets. Always loved the effort he gave, and he was a great fit for those teams.
Just out of curiosity, why do you ask about him? Think he might work well with your team?
