JET reportedly offered the Mavs a chance to match the contract the Celtics gave him. As far as I can tell, he came to the C's because they offered him the most money. I don't think anyone would be upset at Ray if he left because the Celtics offered him less money than the Heat.

People trying to compare Ray Allen's career move to other free agents makes me laugh...

APples and oranges.

Besides, if I were a Dallas fan, I would probably feel a little bitter about JET leaving too. Any time a player leaves for another team by choice, that original team/fan base has a right to be angry.

And this situation is just the absolute worst..

I don't know, that strikes me as similar to the Tony Allen situation, and I never felt bitter about Tony Allen leaving. He had a better opportunity on a different team, and he took it. I still actively cheer for him and his team. Most free agency decisions are about money or playing time, and it's hard to get upset about that.

Yeah, you should be angry because they exercised their rights as free agents. Makes sense. Nobody in the NBA plays to do what is best for the fans. They do what they consider is best for them. Nothing more to it than that. IMO, I think being on the trading block combined with Ray's stubbornness ultimately formed this decision. So much talk about players being loyal to a franchise and whatnot, but loyalty isn't a one-way street. You have to give loyalty to earn it. I don't want to hear that "Rondo was on the trading block!" excuse. Ray Allen isn't Rajon Rondo. They are different people with vastly different personalities. We have no way of knowing what has gone on behind those championship Celtic-doors.

In the end, Ray Allen didn't do anything illegal. He played his heart out in Boston and did what he felt was right for him. Would you like wasting your career around people you don't like just to please other people, no matter how numerous they may be?

Dam, I wish I knew if Ray was reading some of the message boards. Would immediately bring a smile. Thought Boston fans would still love him and have his back, did he?!?! What the hell is he on! FU Ray.

Uhhh Tony Allen got more money and more years in Memphis, for a bigger role... APPLES AND ORANGES.

Also, LOL nobody said Ray Allen did anything illegal..

Jesus Christ.

What is it with you people who just don't want others to have their own feelings? If you don't feel betrayed by Ray Allen, that's fine. I don't care. I'm not going to sit here and make you feel a certain way.

Let the 99% of us vent, and get our anger out.

Christ. LET OTHERS HAVE THEIR DAMN OPINIONS.

Again, you have no damn right to tell us how we should feel or not.

Dude, even current NBA players are tweeting about Ray "betraying" the Celtics.

It's not illegal, it's still a low blow.

For 6 million dollars, I would play with a point guard that I didn't really like.

And playing for the Celtics is not wasting your career. He could have had his jersey retired in the rafters. And he would have had a fair chance at another championship.

Ray's reputation and legacy just went down a few notches. It reminds me of when Karl Malone went to the Lakers. Malone should have retired in Utah. Ray should have retired here.

Ray has made over 100m over his career - I really doubt a few million more isn't a concern for him. Clearly, he wasn't happy in Boston. I doubt he had some vendetta against Boston and did it just to spite the whole place. I agree, playing for the Celts isn't a waste of your career, but maybe it was to Ray? Who knows.

What players have been tweeting about betrayal other than Jack?

EDIT: I wasn't really a fan of the NBA back then, so were people up in arms about Malone?

I just don't understand why the less emotional fans (lets call them the 1%) feel the need to lecture us on how we SHOULD or shouldn't feel.

I wasn't telling you how you should feel, I was dropping my 2 pennies about how I think that the way some people are feeling is irrational. By the way, I was genuinely curious about the Twitter thing. Do you have any links for this?

Jarrett Jack is the only player I have personally seen tweet about it.

I'm sure there are 10+ other guys on a specific team in Boston that would also feel similar, but probably wont say so publicly.

I don't think people were up in arms about Malone. But when he went to LA, he turned into a ring chaser. Ray, of course, already has his ring - with the Celtics.

Ray's departure just seems classless and completely out of character.

I agree about the completely out of character part, but not so much about the classless one. Is every player that leaves their team in FA classless? Is it only classless if they go to the best team in the league?

Again, man, you don't get it.

It's not like Ray left Boston for Memphis for a similar contract.

He left for less money to a team we HATE. His teammates HATE.

To assume this is just a typical situation is pretty ignorant. There are far more factors in this situation than most free agent signings.

Maybe he wanted his best chance at a championship? The feelings of his teammates do not affect his own.

Boston has a pretty decent shot at Miami.

It's not like Ray is leaving the Wizards here.

Again, you aren't saying anything that is going to convince us that Ray didn't betray his teammates.

According to Doc, it may also have had something to do with the fact that we recruited KG harder than Ray this offseason.

Verdict: Ray is kind of emo.

He simply picked the better shot (by his account, at least). Also, let's get this straight. He doesn't like Boston (according to speculation, at least), but wants a fantastic shot to win a championship. Pat Riley persuades him to join the defending champs for a grand total of $3m less.

I'm not trying to convince you guys - I was just dropping my pennies.

EDIT: Do Phoenix fans HATE Steve Nash?

EDIT 2: "If you had treated your wife badly (being on the trade block numerous times), and she found someone else who would treat her well, she would have every right to leave you and be happy. "
