Boston has a pretty decent shot at Miami.

It's not like Ray is leaving the Wizards here.

Again, you aren't saying anything that is going to convince us that Ray didn't betray his teammates.

He simply picked the better shot (by his account, at least). Also, let's get this straight. He doesn't like Boston (according to speculation, at least), but wants a fantastic shot to win a championship. Pat Riley persuades him to join the defending champs for a grand total of $3m less.

I'm not trying to convince you guys - I was just dropping my pennies.

EDIT: Do Phoenix fans HATE Steve Nash?

I think Phoenix fans are somewhat hurt, yes...

But they also realize Nash has ZERO chance to win in Phoenix, who is in rebuilding mode.

Again, APples and Oranges. You love your fruit.

Bottom line is, just like LeBron leaving Cleveland, Ray had the right to leave and play where ever he wanted... And we as fans have absolutely every right to be angry how Ray left. b!tch move.

Please read my #2 edit that I just added.

Pretty sure most of the LBJ-leaving-CLE thing was due to the show and the pep-rally, not his choice itself.

EDIT (I love my edits, lol): Some people seem to forget that Allen was on other teams before Boston.... He isn't exactly a "Celtic," just like LeBron isn't a "Heatle."

Again, apples and oranges.

Why are you acting as if Ray ALlen was treated so terribly, dude...?

Everybody on the roster was being shopped.

Ray is just the only b!tch who got his panties in a bundle.

At the end of the day, Boston offered Ray an extremely generous deal AND a no trade clause, something only 2 players in this league currently have.

I think Boston made it pretty clear they wanted Ray.

He left for the rival. Spit in the face of KG, Paul, Doc and Danny.

F Him. He's the enemy.

Boston had him on the trading block throughout the season, and it was clear that they only offered him a contract because they didn't want to see him play for Miami or another team; not because they wanted him to play for them.

My thoughts on the whole thing: If he would have been traded, would we be talking about how Danny doesn't know a thing about loyalty, or would we be saying "just business?"

That's it.

I'm done talking to you.

You obviously aren't smart enough to comprehend why Celtics fans are upset.

Not only that, you don't make any damn sense.

All good things must come to an end. The memories I have from Ray Allen are all AMAZING. I would wish him luck, but I can't as that would mean wishing Miami luck too..so, just a Thank you, have a nice day.

I just want to point out again that Ray already has a ring. So, he doesn't get any special dispensation in this fan's eyes like I might be inclined to give ol' Karl Malone or Steve Nash or even Lebron James. And if he did win another ring in Boston, that would be far more significant than a ring won with the Heat, who are just coming off a championship that he didn't play a part in.

As a Ray Allen fan I also feel kind of duped, like I fell for his act. Maybe I'll feel differently in 6 months.

Any other team would be better. Except maybe the Lakers.

I'm pretty sure we agree, and you thought I was comparing Tony to Ray, but I was comparing Tony to Terry. JET also left Dallas for more money and a bigger role in Boston. I was saying Dallas fans probably don't begrudge him leaving for the same reason we don't begrudge Tony Allen leaving.

Ray, on the other hand, evidently left because he hated being on the Celtics. I think that is what's so upsetting.

Why is it so upsetting? Don't get me wrong from a basketball standpoint this hurts the Celtics because Ray can do well on a team with Lebron and Wade drawing so much attention. Hell even Chalmers can shoot the three ball..so that helps too..

But Ray choose LESS money. Isn't this something fans like to see? Ray didn't like the working enviroment on the Celtics. He didn't like working with Rondo. He didn't like having Danny Ainge as his boss. So he switched jobs.

It happens all the time. It's called the pursuit of happiness. It's his right.

I definitely agree with Pete, but if the pursuit of happiness for fans at the TD Garden is booing the heck out of Ray in a Heat uniform... then hell to the yeah let's pursue some happiness when he comes back to the Bean!

I've always maintained that I wish money was a BIGGER factor in players' decisions. it's why I wish they would get rid of max contracts and raise the cap.

Anyway, I think you're misinterpreting my feelings toward Ray. I'm not MAD at him and I agree he had a right to leave and I don't begrudge him that right. But you skirt around the reason why I'm upset. I'm a fan of the Celtics more than a fan of any one player. As you state, Ray Allen didn't like being a Celtic, wanted to leave the Celtics, disliked being a Celtic enough that he was willing to take a 50% pay cut to leave. I think it's totally fair, asa fan of the TEAM, to stop being a fan of the player now that he has positioned himself in direct opposition to the team.

Dang....Harsh.

Don't you Celtics fans appreciate his role in bringing the championship in 07-08 and all the great memories he had with big 3? I'm not even a Celtics fan, but I'll always remember those "We are struggling right now....need a miracle" and then Ray Allen pulls a 3 out of his arse to win the game. So many times. Against my pistons, against the 76ers, against the Bulls, and my personal favorite, against the bobcats when THEY had possession of the ball.

I know he went to a rival team, but...wtf? Jason Terry left Dallas...

Oh sure - you won't catch me rooting for him - though I didn't really love the guy in the first place. He always was something of a hired gun. I totally get booing him. But this thread is filled with vitrol and hate. Just pointing out that its not particularly villanous.

Actually its kinda classy - I mean think about it.. He could have taken the money and spoken platitudes about how much he loves being a Celtic and loves the team. But he clearly doesn't love the team. He doesn't like his boss (Ainge) or his coworkers (Rondo) so he said screw it - I am going to go somewhere I want to go even if its half the money.

He deserves the boos - but not the hate, IMHO. FWIW I think we lucked out because if KG new that Ray was going to bail - maybe he bails too..

Ray wiped that all away for deciding to take less money. I could careless about what he did with the Celtics now.

I don't think we really disagree on that much. I think it's generally bad for the NBA when players don't go to the team that offers the most money, but it's an issue of league parity not an issue of classiness or character. I don't mean to impugn Ray's character, just saying I feel insulted as a Celtics fan.

I have one thing to say to the people hating on ray right now: wait until ray releases a statement and give him a chance to explain himself. just because he left doesn't mean he's simply a traitor. you need to know why he left before you call him one and hate on him. if YOU were in his shoes, and had similar choices, experiencing a great pitch, or dealing with "friction" with teammates, ETC ETC, how would YOU handle it?
