How Bad Do We Want Batum?

Post#1 » by Love42Rubio9 » Sun Jul 8, 2012 11:37 am

well, heres my take at this stand point -

there is about a 65% chance Nic Batum stays with Portland, and about a 35% chance we land him - although i would love to have him there is other talent out there that can fill our needs.

OJ Mayo or Courtney Lee would be an awesome get, though both have flaws, both are good.

i feel like weather the Blazers do or do not match the offer on Batum, we should be persuing on of those 2 shooting guards i mentioned, OR a possible package trade of Derrick Williams for Andre Iguodala-
because if/when it comes down to it- giving up DWill for Nic Batum is not worth it if we can get Iggy.

bottom line, i want us to go hard after a 2 guard, and not worry so much about Batum(although i understand he will probly be a very very good player) i think we maybe wasting our time with Portland right now cuz they clearly want him back.

anyway, on a 1-10 scale(10 being highest) how bad do you want Batum in a Wolves Uniform?

Unless Kahn knows that Taylor has no problem dipping into LT I don't want Batum on a bad contract. If we get him I won't be upset but as far as the scale goes : 3.

At a 11 million? I am not to thrilled about it.
At 11 million and trading Williams? Not interested.

I would love Batum at $11 million, not at the expense of Derrick Williams though. Would rather trade them Wes, Ridnour, cap-space & two firsts.

If you ended up with Batum, there would be nights you would absolutely love this guy. The reason being is he is about as athletic and skilled as they come. The problem is his mentality as he has some motor issues. He will defer a lot and act like he doesn't give a crap sometimes. I've seen where the coaching staff is yelling at him to shoot the ball and he still won't listen to 'em. It's the same thing on defense as well. He will be brilliant at times and then just play half-ass defense at other times.

The closest thing to a real PG Batum has played next to is Brandon Roy. Timberwolves are overspending in the hope that Rubio turns him into a much better player than what he's shown so far. It's not going to be hard to hustle when Rubio is going to get you wide open looks on the perimeter and at the basket all game long if you do.

Batum played with Andre Miller for two years and he fits the description of "real PG" quite well

Memphis is lotto-protected and likely to be conveyed in a weak draft. I imagine ours would be too. Not like we are eager to add any more rookies anyway.

Just signed for $11 M per? 5
With S&T for any decent assets? 2

What? Wouldn't he be signed at $11 M anyway? So surely us signing him would be better than POR signing him and forcing us to give capspace and a pick?

Us signing him means we have no cap space to sign Roy or Lee or most anyone else. We would have to make a separate trade or two to free up more space and we would have to renounce all our exceptions. A S&T means we can get Batum and use the MLE on Roy. A S&T sending out assets like Williams for the opportunity to overpay Batum is too much, though.

I thought Minny could clear $16-$18 million by waiving Webster & Miller and amnestying Darko?

Unless we have a deal already in place to land Iggy should Batum fall through, I'm pretty close to a 10.

I always liked Webster when he was with the Blazers. Maybe Webster+ Minny 2013 pick(top 10 protected maybe?) for Batum?

I would say pick three assets, one from each:

1. Ridnour or Barea or Webster or Johnson
2. Webster or Johnson
3. Minnesota '13 1st or Memphis '13 1st

Can the Wolves even include its own pick for next year in a S&T?
