As for Gray, solid player, dont want him to be a starter though.

Most here ignore the racist comments 99% of the time, but when no action is taken, once in a while some of us burst in frustration and take it against who ever has done it last (although it is a compounded issue).
Keep it clean and we all should have fun!

Back on subject, I am neutral on his signing, although I wished we got a better veteran C, I also realize that for the money he is not that bad. At least he is a big body who can bang inside and give Val some breaks at the beginning (adjusting phase) when playing against big guys in the league.

Unfortunately this forum's mods allows too many racist comments against whites - racist is racism regardless on who you pick, get it?

I'm tired of reading idiotic comments where all "Euros/aka whites" are soft, not athletic, etc. Kids like you need to learn that it is not OK to label people based on skin colour (even if they are whites).

No form of racism should be encouraged on this forum!!!

he did receive a warning.
do your job as a poster and flag inappropriate posts.
it makes it much easier for us to moderate and then we don't have to listen to posters like you bellyache that we missed a post.

as a mod, i take offense to your comment and think that you're incorrect. if you want to debate the moderator track record, you are welcome to do so - just not on this forum (go to the Feedback forum)

Since I have somehow got a warning out of this. I'll just have to say that if I have somehow blindly offended any Caucasian posters on this board in any perceived harmful manners, I am sorry. I'm truly sorry so please accept my kindness apology. Sorry for heartlessly calling a specific racial skin color a "7 footer". I won't do it again. I will watch what I write from now on.

So back to the main topic, I like this Gray signing because it's a cheap deal and I hope we don't look into Kaman or trade for him like I've heard from other posters' suggested trade scenario. I don't want Kaman taking all the heavy minutes. Put Gray into the starting role and then give Big Val heavy minutes down the stretch so that he can use most of the given opportunities. Overall, It's a great signing.

Yup. The man does his job. A great guy to have behind skilled bigs. I don't think you need to run a 280-lb guy out there every night anymore but I do think you need one on your bench to bang with the handful of legit 5s out there. 7-8 years ago somebody like Gray would be an MLE player. Heck, he's better than Haywood and Diop, to name a couple guys making (presumably) much more.

Brought more than I expected. Only big man we have that boxes out properly (Sorry Bargs and Amir... you juts suck at it), and knows how to set a high hard pick. Tad slow on the foot speed, but we are not a breakout team anyway.

As long as he doesn't start or play big minutes, it's a good signing. But Casey is probably going to play him minutes, and watching Gray play 20 minutes a game is agonizing stuff.

I'm good with that. Hope this means Jamaal is gone, though.

^I feel bad for him when he goes on the radio. I've heard radio hosts announce him as "the hardest working man in the business" a few times. They have to be mocking him, right?

I honestly believe he gets paid to embarrass himself.[/quote]

I am not here to pile on Doug Smith, but I stop paying attention to him a decade ago. The Toronto basketball media is a joke, so I always disregard them. Doug Smith has made so many contradictory statements in his career, it is not even funny. I do not want to disrespect him, since he seems like a good guy and all, but his reporting is a joke. I remember when Colangelo signed Kapono to a ridiculous 24 million dollar contract over 4 years and he made it seem like it was a steal, same with the Kleiza, Amir and Turkoglu contracts, which Colangelo grossly overpaid. Colangelo could never do any wrong in this guy's eyes. I am sure he will spin the Landry Fields signing in the positive direction as well. When Toronto lost the coin toss to Golden State to determine the 7th pick, it was on a friday back in April, and Doug Smith stated that we would not know the results by early next week when the league office discloses it, and when I got home from work around 4 p.m., the results were posted on the RealGM Wiretap. He has no sources. His sources are ESPN and the other major reliable writers in the United States. The entire Toronto basketball media is a joke. I only pay attention to the Toronto media when it talks hockey.
