Stephen A made a good point on a tweet yesterday.
If the Lakers played the Heat in the finals, with Bynum and Gasol, they would make us a perimeter team...exactly what Dallas did and that got us completely off our game...
We need a Center...bad.

If Bosh is healthy, the Lakers can't do jack with us. Bosh owns Gasol and Bynum. And we showed last year Lebron can shut down Gasol. So our small ball lineup would give them massive problems defensively. You really think Bynum is going to come out to guard the 3 point line against Bosh or Battier?
They'd have to go small and give up their advantage.
Our big advantage over everyone in this league is our lineup when we go small with Lebron/Battier at the forwards and Bosh at the 5. The minute you play a center in Bosh's spot, you allow teams to pack the paint on Lebron and Wade. See also the Pacers series. Which I'd add we won anyways, because Lebron and Wade are unstoppable.
Show me a team in this league that has a better lineup than this:
Wade
Ray
Battier
Lebron
Bosh
There is none. Plus we'll have championship swagger next year to boot. No more nervous Lebron. Just killer, doing what it takes to win games Lebron.
Injuries are the only thing that can beat us.

Q: Ira, I know we got Ray Allen, and that's great, but Marcus Camby already canceled on us and it doesn't look like anyone besides Rashard Lewis, who is trying to rebuild his career, is interested in our minimum. Can the Heat do anything else this summer? -- Charles, Cooper City.
A: You bet, and anyone who thinks Pat Riley is calling it a summer the second week of July is deluding himself. Foremost, beyond Lewis, the minimum-scale market hasn't even opened, with many free agents still deluding themselves about larger contracts. So plenty of names will become available, similar to the types of moves the Heat routinely have made late in the free-agency period, the Gary Payton-type moves, if you will. Beyond that, Riley was almost too giddy when he acquired the 76ers' 2013 lottery-protected first-round pick on draft night, as if a kid in a candy story. So you can bet that could be in play. Pair that, or perhaps Norris Cole, with Joel Anthony's $3.8 million 2012-13 salary, and you're back in the game for a mid-level type of addition. So do the Heat have more to put into play? You bet.

Heres the thing with Nash they are more lethal and in a playoff series you will see the effect the pounding will have on Bosh and Lebron.
Again there is a reason Laker fans want us to play small ball against them, that should tell you something.
Again there's a reason why Pat is trying to get us some size, that should tell you how confident he is about small ball full time. Small ball to end a game works because of our speed and skill but to do it in a playoff series against an elite team with size is asking for trouble.

Going off what a fanbase thinks isn't the best way to go when evaluating those things. I guess it's human nature for fans to look at other teams and think "look at those advantages they have against my team" while forgetting your team poses matchup nightmares for them as well. The versatility that Miami is capable of makes it a mission for opposing teams to figure out how to cover them. Miami has also been one of the better teams at defending the paint despite the lack of a "true center".

I swear Bynum is not an interior presence like Tyson, Howard to make the Heat a perimeter team
Tyson, Howard are capable of this. That's it
Idk how and when Bynum became this defensive monster, he's slow footed and he has Pau (another slow guy) to help him defensively

If that were the case, he would have gone after Camby over Allen to start FA. I would guess he's confident Miami can manage against bigger teams still. Doesn't mean he won't try to get some size on the roster but clearly he felt getting a guy that can't be ever left alone on the perimeter was a bigger priority than a guy that would defend and rebound in the paint for this team.

The same Tyson that was abused by Bosh in the first round? Im not really concerned about any centres against us. Even Dwight is overrated and I just dont see him as that much of a difference maker against us in a series
I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1- gasol and bynum will not make miami a perimeter team. has anybody watched our games vs lakers the past two years? lebron and wade had no problem attacking the rim.
2- let the lakers come out of the west first.
3- in the playoffs, i want us to play our best players, period. our stars are versatile enough to allow us to do that. assuming miller is out and lewis is signed (camby seems like a long shot), those are our 9 best players in order and the minutes should reflect that:
1- bron
2- wade
3- bosh
4- allen
5- chalmers
6- battier
7- haslem
8- lewis
9- cole
10- joel

What about looking into adding d blair from the spurs. They are looking to move him. Trade next years pick and the guy we drafted this year or cole. I know he does not answer our center position but put him next to bosh would be a good front court. He can defend and rebound and needs to be accounted for on offense.

i don't see it. doesn't protect the rim and doesn't stretch the defense.

What do you guys think about Varnado? Could be Ibaka 2.0 if he makes the team.

He can be a nice addition for sure. Ibaka 2.0? Extremely unlikely.

Rashard is meeting with Atlanta and (I think) NY later this week, but the meeting went well.
@EthanJSkolnick: Hearing that the Heat left yesterday's meeting with Rashard Lewis confident that he'll come aboard. Nothing official yet.

Yep was just about to post this. Riley is unbelievable. We will close games with Wade-Allen-Rashard-LeBron-Bosh........that is just absolutely insane. LeBron has to be in Heaven right now lol he had some bad luck early in his career getting drafted by small market Cleveland, and in 8 years the best player they could put beside him was Mo Freakin Williams lol. Not everyone is lucky enough to get drafted by Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Miami, or Boston, and get star free agents knocking your door down to play with you. Now, he's making up for lost time thanks to the genius of Pat Riley.

Decent read from SI about our offseason.

I thought the last bit was worth posting given some of the latest rumor rumblings.

The pursuit of more players may not stop there for the Heat, though they won't break up the team to do it. The Heat have no interest in including point guard Norris Cole or center Joel Anthony in any sign-and-trade scenarios, a source said, meaning anyone interested in playing for them (veterans such as shooting guard Raja Bell and center Marcus Camby) will have to settle for the minimum.
