why trade for expiring contracts when the Wolves would have the cap-space?

The Pacers are matching Portland's 4-year, $58 million offer to Roy Hibbert, according to a source

Interestingly enough, If Hibbert is actually matched, I think I would rather workout a S&T with Minnesota for Williams & pick + expiring contracts. This is where we go into full blown asset collection & rebuild mode, hold our cap space for another year and look at next year.

I haven't taken a peak at Indy's lineup, but what do you guys think about a 3-team S&T sending Hibbert to Portland, Batum to MN, and Dwill to Indy. There would obviously have to be more involved overall, but what are your thoughts on that? If what you say about Indy's interest in Leonard or Lilliard are true, perhaps DWill has some interest for them as well?

I don't think Portland will back off of their offer sheet just because of a report the Pacers will match. Those first 3 days of the off-season could see a lot happen, and players like McGee could very well have gone with another offer by the time Indiana matches

that's the risk of going after an RFA

I would also. Williams is a PF yes but he and or Aldridge could be moved later on for maximum value

Derrick Williams isn't a power forward and he isn't a small forward in the NBA. He's a bench forward who can help here and there... But, he'll never be a starter at either position on a winning team.

Also with offer sheet not signed maybe they are trying to scare the Blazers off / back out if they know there money will be tired up for 3 days.

I think it's still a longshot Hibbert is a Blazer but i will hold onto any sliver of hope until i can't ... lol

Probably a little of both. They'd love Portland to withdraw their offer so the Blazers could try and negotiate a lower price and if the Blazers don't withdraw the offer, they'll take every second possible in matching the contract to tie up the Blazers cap space.

That's part of the risk of making a run at a RFA.

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
Indy, per source, will give Hibbert the same terms that Portland was ready to give in offer sheet, & so won't technically "match" the sheet.

Interesting. So he's not even going to sign the offer sheet anymore. At least that saves us on the 3 days of waiting. Not sure if I believe this though, as he's already in Portland to sign the sheet

Hmmm, interesting development. Would be nice if true. If hes going to stay in Indy regardless, I'd much rather he just sign directly with the Pacers.

Either Indiana wants to sign him outright for public relations reasons OR they want a different structure to the deal than the offer sheet states.

Again, probably a bit of both.

If they are keeping him, then signing directly works best for us, so we don't have our space tied up for 3 days.

Denver will match anything and we'll have the same problem on our hands of our cap being all tied up, or we max a guy who has lower BBIQ than Outlaw, ugh

No disagreement there. If anything, McGee gives a feeling that he's more durable and less prone to injury.

Except, a three year deal would be the safer course with McGee. Trial and error.

They can still chase Brook Lopez or Spencer Hawes can't they? They could screw with the Nets ang get Lopez to sign an offer sheet, making him unavailable in a S&T. If I were Lopez I would rather play alongside LMA than a depleted Magic roster.

Spencer Hawes agreed to terms with Philly, and Brook Lopez? Ew do not want

and lets not forget Indiana may simply be blowing smoke. So we will see

I'm interested to see if Indiana's offer is front-loaded like Portland's may be, and whether he will sign with Portland still or just sign Indiana's offer. Either way, it was a good shot.
