Beltran: Jays never made formal offer

Post#1 » by dagger » Mon Jul 9, 2012 11:41 pm

I'm not sure if this means we were ready to make an offer but he said no to turf, or just that we never made an offer, period.

Shi Davidi says Jays showed interest but according to Beltran never made a formal offer.

This thread made me very confused. Thought I'd just closed the Jays forum.

edit: and it was moved before I could even post and I'm back here again. :D

I would expect this, just how like how they said the Jays made an offer for Yu Darvish.. but that costs extra money, something Rogers wouldnt like to give out. From the start, I never had faith on Rogers breaking the bank for the Jays so I certainly dont have faith on Rogers/Bell breaking the bank for the Raptors (and Leafs/TFC).

They probably got word that he and his knees do want to to play on turf. Beltran does not consider the preliminary stages to be very formal. That's on him, not us.

Would be my guess too, not really newsworthy imo

who was the interviewer? I would doubt it was someone from Sportsnet, as they wouldn't want that type of news out..

yes; during the season ticket gathering, AA and management hinted that an offer was made to Beltran, but nothing could be done as he didn't want to play on turf.

I don't recall him saying that a 'formal offer' was made, or specifically stating it was Beltran.

He did make the statement in response to a Beltran question, which suggested Carlos was the person he was referring to.

This story could mean the Jays said they'd give Carlos X dollars and he said don't bother given the turf: consequently, a formal offer wouldn't have been extended.

Or it could mean AA is a liar...

Who knows.

Yes - you're right. I understood incorrectly. I have no idea if an offer was made, but pretty much what you said in your last sentence was where I was going at. Got confused with offer and interest
