I heard KC on CTL today talking about how he wants the Bulls to match because it is better than doing nothing and losing him for nothing. I sort of agreed with what he said. They could trade him at the final year of his contract and at least get something for him.

if this guy were in a different uniform, and getting signed for such an outlandish amount, there's no doubt in my mind ALL the asik support group would be calling his team's FO a bunch of idiots.

How in the hell do you trade a 15 million dollar contract with the name Omer Asik attached to it?

You really think Asik would have agreed to that offer sheet so early in the process if his big year wasn't even guaranteed? Don't hold your breath on that.

I keep hearing this.

Who are we going to get for half the price ($4M) that is way better?

It would be an expiring contract. It isn't entirely unthinkable, many bad players have been traded in the final year with much worse contracts that is being reported with Asik.

Again, the offer sheet was agreed to over a week ago. Don't you think by now that AN IMPORTANT DETAIL like that would've leaked to both Houston and Chicago's beat writers?

Come on man. And why would he agree to a deal that has a buyout on the last year?

Yes I do. He visited all teams that were interested. Made his final decision right away. Who else was going to bid on him?

He was an important part, but not the be-all, end-all. The Bulls will always be an elite defensive team as long as Thibs is the coach and Paxson/Gar are running the FO. Defense has never been an extended problem on this team in the Paxson Era.

You make this point all the time, and I respect it when you're arguing trading defense to acquire more offense, but this is just an example of getting worse at defense. Getting worse at defense, even when you're good at it, makes you worse.

I can't blame anybody for staying away from the $14 million plus year, but losing Asik will make the Bulls worse, and that's not good.

I was talking for the team that would be obtaining Asik in a S&T.

It could happen. If I remember right, Rashard Lewis details didn't come out until later either.

no we didn't all forget; some choose to not overrate the few minutes asik played and the miniscule impact he had against the team that beat the bulls 4 games to 1. are you suggesting asik would've been the difference in winning vs. losing?

Give me an example, and I'll believe you. The only times that happens is when the player is of a Luol Deng caliber.

This just goes back to tong's point that a good chunk of this board overvalues defense and believes a surplus of defense is a necessity and not a luxury. In turn, it's no surprise why this organization in the past 14 years has been a crap offensive franchise. This team is never going to suck at defense as long as Paxson and Thibodeau are here.

Would it really kill us if we dropped from 1st in defense to 3rd? God forbid.

You mean Houston? Our best bet is Lee in a separate trade. That will involve moving Kyle Korver as well.

Basically Lee for Korver + JL3 (S&T) and then Asik walks. We're not getting better there.

If I had an agent who I hired to get me as many millions as possible, I would tell him to take a couple days to negotiate until I had the majority of my contract guaranteed. He's either looking at 3 years/25 million, or 2 years/10 million. Mr. Asik looks kinda silly, I'll give you that, but I don't think he's silly enough to accept that seemingly as soon as it was offered. No.

No, let me rephrase this. A lot of pro match Asik posters are claiming that we can somehow get rid of Asik in his 3rd year, when has that 15 million dollar price tag. Im saying, are you freaking kidding me? The NBA dont work like that.
