we've got a lot of options at 2 besides Lance. we've got OJ and DJ and Hill can play two with DC or AJ at the point. plus Leandro could be brought back although he'll have to take a pay cut. the problem I see is that none of our 4's can swing to the 3. they all have an easier time swinging to the 5. I'd be looking for a true backup 5 and a backup 3. Pacers.com does list Lee as a 2/3 which helps though.

Dahntay is a major offensive liability at the 3, let alone the 2. Sure, we can play DC and GH together at times, and that clears up some.

However, I'm just not feeling that we can just blindly count on Lance and OJ already. I'd like some sort of addition to temper our sheer dependence on a rookie out of UCSB and a kid who still seems like you just can't count on mentally (Lance). Add in a 2/3 in Courtney Lee, and I think we're a much better off team.

I'm not really sure we need a 4 to step down to the 3 often, if at all, though. Granger and George should net almost all of the minutes at the 3, and a guy like Courtney Lee or OJ Mayo could help solve the problem. Sure, a 3/4 would be nice at times, but just not sure I like anyone out there.

A true backup 5 is someone I would like for much the same reason I want coverage for Lance and OJ. Just not sure we can count on Plumlee from day 1 to be a top notch reserve. Lou or Fesenko would be ok. Just not a Hamady N'Diaye. Please. We already have one question mark in Plumlee, we need to add someone who may not be great, but is a given. Ian Mahinmi is kind of the ideal to me. Not too expensive, not too old, but simply a solid backup center.

agreed. that's why I think we need a 3 more than a 2, but if Lee can do both, fine.

didn't mean we needed a 4 who can play 3. I meant that because none of our 4's can do that, it leaves us with a weakness at backup 3 because as we have agreed Dahntay is not the answer at 3. we need someone besides Danny and Paul who can play 3 if only to cover for injuries and foul trouble.

me 2. I'd be happy with Fes who I thought showed real understanding of the game last year but certainly wouldn't complain about getting someone still better.

UPDATE: The Clippers' reported deals with Jamal Crawford and Chauncey Billups remove them from the O.J. Mayo mix, and of the five others listed earlier -- Dallas, Houston, Indiana, New York and Phoenix -- the Pacers appear to want him as bad as any team.

Pacers beat writer Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star tweets that "Mayo is clear No. 1 choice for Indy" among the crop of free agent shooting guards.

---
We wrote earlier this week Boston was no longer in the picture for O.J. Mayo, who expects to sign a deal worth more than the mid-level exception, which was all that the Celtics could offer.

So what teams does that leave in the mix? According to this tweet by ESPN's Ric Bucher, there are still six teams going after Mayo: Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns.

We've previously mentioned that the Suns could be a perfect fit. Could Mayo be the next piece to a rapidly evolving puzzle in the desert, which now includes both Goran Dragic and Michael Beasley? He could be; New Orleans reportedly will match the Suns offer to Eric Gordon, and it goes without saying that the Suns have proven a willingness to shell out the big bucks this summer.

The one team from the list above that seems like a longshot, at least to this writer, is the Clippers, which are already in negotiations with Jamal Crawford and Chauncey Billups, are set to bring in Ray Allen for a visit tomorrow, and are also interested in Nick Young and Courtney Lee.

We'll keep you posted when we hear more on where Mayo could land.

- Joe Kaiser

Looks like Mayo will be the primary pursuit. Less expensive option than Gordon.

Cheaper than Gordon but he would still be an expensive back-up, i just don't see him coming in cheap. But anyways, having him would still be a good move. This could be a make or break year for Granger. If George and Mayo clicks well, we could soon make Mayo the starter and George in Granger's place.

Wiretap reports that the Howard trade is looking for a team to take MarShon Brooks and send a 1st to Orlando. I'd do that although I don't know that Orlando would consider our first to be high enough.

I would love that move; It would be savvy. Brooks showed ability to create his own shot; and is a solid defender with a nice wingspan. Additionally he is still on his rookie deal for 2 seasons.

I'd really like this too, especially after watching our last draft.

He is a terrible defender, but I would also trade a first for him because he can score.

Yup. Much more cost effective for offense at the SG position off the bench than paying OJ Mayo as a free agent...

Yeah, Brooks would be a fine addition, but I don't think BK really wants to enrich a rival contender like us.

I was calling for us to draft him prior to last season @ 15, and he's done nothing to suggest that he is not worth it in my estimation.... If all it takes is a lottery protected 1st, I'm in already.

What's not to like? He is a prototypical 2, with a wingspan that allows him to play heavy minutes at the 3.

I'd hate to see us contribute in any way to Howard going to New Jersey.

Go get Gerald Green so he doesn't go back to Jersey. Small stuff in the big picture but anything to put a wrench in the plans for another super team is good by me.
