Does anyone else hate this guy? It really doesn't seem like he does or knows anything. I can't think of a single piece of Timberwolves related news he's ever broken. It would be so nice if he had some type of connections in the organization, so he could give you information on where their head is at. I don't really care about this sport, but it's hilarious to read their hockey beat reporter in comparison, he's always got unique quotes from players and management in non-press conference situations.

He provides a target that David Kahn can rip at every press conference.

Yeah, I don't care for him but I don't hate him. Sometimes get the feeling he is either pretty cynical or just doesn't care for the organization. Maybe both.

I think the same of him as I do of Dan Barreiro. I think he's a **** clown who presents himself as an authority on NBA basketball, but he doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

There are other guys who are far worse. Guys like Reusse and Souhan make Zgoda look like Popovich.

I think he's pretty negative (beyond what's reasonable), but that's not really what I mean. What bugs me is that his sources for information seems to be a google news alert. He's not writing about what he's reporting, he's writing about what other people are reporting. The reason I bring it up is because I'm really skeptical they have any interest in Pau Gasol. Last year there were rumors about a season ticket holder meeting when Kahn expressly said all the stuff about Gasol was fiction, and he was too old and too expensive to interest them. Meaning that all those rumors were coming from the Lakers side. Now maybe that was made up, or they've changed their mind, so I'm wrong (though I think that would be so stupid). But it would be nice to have a reporter who was giving you the Minnesota perspective (meaning the actual thinking going on in the front office) rather than parroting whatever the national media is saying and then giving his personal opinion on it.

That is true. And the StarTrib writers are all garbage. The whole sportswriter scene in the Twin Cities is pretty bad IMO.

It was a sad day when SI stole Britt Robson. Well, maybe not for him.

Consider whoever is Minnesota's representative for the NFL Hall of Fame still hasn't bothered to push Cris Carter for nomination. Sucktitude is pretty universal for all sports writing in Minnesota, but I guess the Vikings can be thankful the writers are mostly hopelessly optimistic for them every year.

Absolutely the truth. Love Britt Robson.

JZ is a typical lazy reporter, parroting gossip and calling it news, worshiping status and wishing he was more important, and generally looking down on those he thinks are less important than he is. In short, yeah, he's a piece o ****.

I don't think he likes Basketball, he seems to have no team sources, and Kahn treats him like a moron. I think Kahn nailed it.
Though honestly, most of the Tribune staffers assigned to sports suck, they all love golf, the Vikings, and not much else. Quite a few of them have bizarre right wing leanings, hoping to get hired by Fox someday I suspect, perhaps they are just dumb guys across the board, regardless of topic.

What a dick. Sorry for asking about your beat mr. reporter guy... Now that you bring up the Gasol stuff too, I agree. I read from one source (can't remember who) that LA was the one pushing for a Gasol trade, which makes sense. Any half decent NBA mind would think through the finances and realize Pau is not a good idea. Sure, getting a "star" is cool but not for his price at his position. At the very least, you would not phrase the idea as if Minnesota is the pushing factor.
He really does do a half-assed job. Really anything he tweets I read 4 hours prior via twitter it seems.

The handful that were decent werent here long and went elsewhere. Zgoda is horrid. Don't dIsagee that he just writes off news feeds as he's never had a unique angle. That latest tweet is him being a grade A douchebag. His Q&A video for Randball recently was painful.

Jade_hippo, not sure who would present the Carter HoF argument, but one thing I don't think Viking fans understand is there's a lot of people that see him as a huge prick regardless of HoF numbers and that counts against him,IMO. (sorry for talking football in this thread)

Doesn't anyone on here read Russo and all the stuff he gives us on the Wild? He is easily one of the best beat writers anywhere. He is always breaking news, has a crap load of connections with front offices around the league, and generally works his butt off getting stories. He's a great writer imho.

Think you're right.

Zulgad and Neal are good ones from the Strib, but yeah they have really gone down hill.
