So who really knows. But for people to think Snyder was a loser or a bad coach seems to be unsubstantiated. Sure, as fans, we can be defensive about it, but it doesn't make any of that true.

This article in the LA Times speaks highly of Snyder and says that he had the players respect/trust. Oh, and in Philly, he was in charge of player development. So I'm going to guess that he had a similar role with the Lakers.

To be fair though, part of that trust element could simply be because he was never directly accountable for the results put out on the floor. If you never have a clear-cut opportunity to have your playbook put in motion, and the next best evaluator of your coaching talent is how well you've developed younger players (who rarely see the hardwood), then you're not exactly going to give much ammo to your critics. At least not if your critics care about being taken seriously.

But from this guy's pedigree and demeanor gathered from various articles and news fragments, it also seems unlikely that his presence was as inconsequential as some people want to believe.

Before Lakers assistant Quin Snyder agreed to lucrative spot w/ CSKA-Moscow, he turned down interview for head job w/ Magic, sources tell Y!

I don't know about that, I think it was because Snyder probably knew he wasn't going to get the job. Shaw, and Hornacek are above him for the position.

Wow, I had no idea what he did until I read this thread. That PnR playbook could have been useful this year, hopefully the players picked his brain.
C'mon, you apes! You wanna live forever?
