Dwight Howard trade rumor thread (Talks on hold? P. 90)

Post#1 » by Heat fan06 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 2:12 pm

The Hawks have engaged the Magic in trade talks involving Howard, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. That person did not want to be identified because the teams involved have not discussed the negotiations publicly.

The Hawks could offer Orlando better players than the Nets. But Atlanta could run the risk of trading away valuable assets only to lose Howard in free agency when his contract expires after next season.

RHETT EDIT:

Instead of having a bunch of threads floating around based on various teams opening/closing "talks" on Dwight Howard, let's just discuss all the rumours here until something concrete emerges.

They dont seem to have the contracts to get a deal done(assuming they want to keep smith and teague), and trading a superstar in his prime in your own division?

Chicago can realistically offer a tremendous package, but there's no point when Howard is this hellbent on going to Brooklyn. Atlanta is re-building from scratch (minus Josh Smith), so they can afford to take that gamble I suppose.

At this point, if I'm OKC, I tell Orlando "Okay, I'll give you Harden+picks+PerkinsIfYouWantHim/OrIbaka, but no bad contracts my way" and roll the dice on Dwight "I want to repair my image" Howard publicly walking away from playing with Durant and Westbrook.

How do the Nets get him? Especially with sign and trades being banned for tax payers starting next year, the Nets have no cap space and no capabilities to get Howard if noone is willing to trade him there.

That's why they're desperately trying to get him this year, while it's still legal. IMO, they're looking at every possible way right now, to manipulate the CBA. In time, they'll find a way I think.

Good for us. If the Nets get Howard the East is completely unwinnable by any team other than the Heat, Nets or Bulls if the Nets get Howard. Why not take the risk and get Dwight and resign him and his best friend Josh Smith and then try get CP3 in the offseason. Even if Dwight walks you still have no bad contracts and our picks to rebuild with.

That's Houston's philosophy as well, and it's not a bad one.

I can see that happening.

Lets hope that the Magic have the brain power to wake up and realize almost anything is better than that poopoo platter the Nets are offering.

Also the Hawks will only have one contract after this year (if Teague and Horford is traded) and that is John Jenkins, so Atlanta has the room and the money to resign him, Josh Smith, one more Max Contract unless he wants to signed for the MLE with the Nets. Even know that they are trading to a divisonal rival, any deal is better then that Nets deal.

I believe this is the final year of Larry Drew's contract, so Howard could basically pick the coach next year, too.

sure they have the contracts, all they have to do is redirect Devin Harris for JRich, Send Horford and Pachulia for Howard and Qrich, then they can throw in the Rockets pick that they got from the Nets, as well as the a Hawks pick or two, and they have a much better deal then what the Nets could offer for Howard.

As for trading within your division, I can see that argument to a point, but if your alternatives are Horford, Harris, and Pachulia at their deals with picks, opposed to Walton, Lopez on a max deal, and lesser picks then I think you trade him in your division.

Not sure why Dwight wouldn't want Atlanta...

-Friends: Morrow & JSmoove play for ATL
-Hometown
-Big market team (atleast better than Minn like Klove ;) )

Depending on what ATL gave up, they'd have a decent team.. I'm assuming Horford would be dealt. But they'd still have either Harris or Teague & JSmoove. Not sure if that's much better.. but they got rid of most their "terrible" contracts (JJ & Marvin). Say they sign OJ Mayo. Teague-Mayo-Turk-Smoove-DH isn't a bad lineup.

If Hawks take a 1 year rental, that means we will hear about Howard for the next year!!!!

Plus with that team that Orlando will have, they can actually contend for a playoff spot right away, not being in rebuilded mode again. If Atlanta wants to be tricky, they can added another team to mix if they like.

Outside of Lakers deal, this is one of the best deals that Orlando can make, in my opinion.

**EDIT - The biggest takeaway from this is, Orlando doesnt need even give Al a contact because he is already signed for the next 3 at 12m. Value all round.
