eh, I'd rate Shavlik more of a D+, but if you want to grade him a C on the curve, I guess I could see that... ;-)

Yeah, probably right. But then again, they could have given Garret Siler the blue jersey.

OK, I have to stop now. This is pathetic.

 You stole my thunder Sev, I was wondering if Randolph was going to be the new Yi this-year.

Kim English: Game-high 18 points on 5-9 FG, 3-4 3P, and 5-5 FT in a Pistons win over the Jazz. Might have made a nice pick at #46....... if we had the 46th pick, that is.

He went a couple picks earlier than that. On the other hand, Kyle O'Quinn, who went a couple picks later than 46, went 8-10 yesterday! :)

He might turn out to be fine, CCJ. But the proposed trade involved giving up a (probably mid-)first round pick. I'm not that high on him. Again, as I always try to remember to say, I wish him well. Not a player hater.

You're not alone on Brooks. It will be interesting to see in time how he develops as a player. I didn't direct the Brooks comment at anyone in particular. I like how his rookie season started out, but he ended on a low note.

that low note included getting outplayed by the guy you hate, JCraw,
in a late season Wiz win over New Joisey.

Hate is a strong word. Dwyane Wade is the only NBA player who evokes visceral negative feelings within me, jim. :) I actually like Crawford's swagger and his overall attitude. I just wish the shots he takes would go in more often. Also, that he would refrain from taking most of the bad shots he tends to take quite often.

Drummond looks lackadaisical. Not impressed with him at all so far.

He played great man D on Kanter yesterday, although he was quiet on offense. Today, he just disappeared. Wasn't establishing post position, didn't call for the ball, looked scared tor receive the ball, and he was non-existent on the boards. Knight did a terrible job running the offense though for the most part and really wasn't giving anybody open looks. I hope both guys come out looking better tomorrow.

In the what a difference a day makes, so far Harper is shooting 2-14 in his second summer league game. Worse, he has 5 fouls and is 0-7 on three point shots.

Sullinger is 1-8 in his game.

Drummond has 3 points, 3 rebounds so far in 22 minutes. On the other side Kyle O'Quinn has 11 points 6 rebound and Andrew Nicholson has 13 points 6 rebounds in around the same time. Nicholson has a 4 turnovers and 5 fouls.

What should we make of these games?

Not much. Games like these tell you more about who can't play rather than who can.

Never saw much in Harper anyways that would indicate he was an NBA prospect to begin with.

Absolutely correct, Dat. A great Summer League performance is no guarantee of later dominance (see Marcus Banks, Anthony Randolph, Von Wafer, et al). But failure to dominate SL for a high draftee or returning veteran is a major red flag. Right now, I think Kanter looks troubling, if you ask me. I hope he gets it together because I want to root for the kid. OTOH, if he looks like a disappointment, maybe we can get him for pennies on the dollar, and we know Wall expressed a desire to add him last year.

I do think Harper could be good, but will be a somewhat one-dimensional player. Still, a stretch 4 who doesn't embarrass you on D or on the boards has some value. We'll see if he can develop that outside shot.

CCJ - I was encouraged that Sullinger grabbed 12 boards today, and his team won. Looks like the shot wasn't falling, but he found other ways to contribute. Think he'll prove to be a very good value for a late 1st round pick.

Kanter had a pretty solid game today. 10 points 8 rebounds. Kyle Singler and Kyle O' Quinn have also been pretty impressive in both games so far.

Is it a red flag? Are you basing this on something or is this a hypothesis? I'm going to email some stat folks and see if there's any research on summer league performance.

Pure, shameless, unadulterated, non-professional hypothesis.

Actually, hypothesis is probably giving it way too much credit.

But as always, would be glad to have hard data to support or refute, if available.

This seems to be true for me, year in and year out, unless my team makes the playoffs and goes deep. I love it though, watching all the new guys. I find it more exciting than even the finals at times.

In fact, im going to be upgrading my internet plan soon (internet in australia is really expensive and not all that fast if you dont live in a big city) just so i can catch all the Beal action.

Mason Plumlee is playing really well on Indiana's summer league team. On a par with Sullinger.
