Don't sell Morey so short. He's not dumb enough to bring in Howard if he doesn't think he can bring in other all star caliber players to convince him to stay. The Howard trade will be the first of many.

He could start with quality point guards on cap friendly contracts.
Dragic and Lowry come to mind.

Actually, for once I'm going to support Shaheen. This is a fake Twitter account. No such person works for the Houston Chronicle. Chad Evans is also fake.

i think it makes sense LA push for a long term commitment, though it might mean he ends up in houston instead.

I think he'd agree to an extension after playing in LA for a year but why take the chance when Drew is almost surely to resign, the risk is greater than the reward.

Dragic wasn't cap friendly and trading Lowry for the Raptors' pick was necessary to get Howard in the first place.

I don't think it's a deal breaker for LA. I think what they are doing is trying to call Dwight's bluff. The writing is on the wall with the changes in the CBA that if he doesn't get traded to the nets this off-season, and it looks like it's not happening, he's never going to play there. He'll be long past his prime before he gets another opportunity. Getting Dwight to see that, and view his most viable destination, I think the Lakers are trying to get him to see that they are his next best option, Kobe is in the twilight of his career, this will be his team within the next 2 years.

Basically the Lakers are saying, since Brooklyn will never happen, being the franchise player for the Los Angeles Lakers is not a bad consolation prize.

One year of contract is not going to convince Dwight to stay with a garbage team. I don't know why thats so improbable to some of you.

Player leave their teams all the time.

To those saying Morey would make other moves after dealing for Howard..like what? He'd basically be giving up all his assets just to acquire Howard. And with Dragic/lEE walking theres really nothing else to build on

the 30 mil + the lack of good teams being on the market can convince a player to stay...

plus, if there is one person in the league that can build around a player. I believe Morey could do it

If Dwight wasn't revolted at the idea of playing in LA he would have accepted the trade there in March IMO. There is something keeping Dwight from the Lakers. He REALLY does not want to go there.

I don't know what exactly but that much is clear.

It's a new cba where you can't get that extra year in a sign and trade. Guys like Lebron and Bosh ended up with their full length contracts for slightly less money in a state with no income tax. It's still possible that Howard leaves that money on the table but coming off back problems there is no guarantee he will be a max player in 4 more years so it is a risk for him to pass up all that money.

Atlanta and Dallas would already be far super teams to Houston. They have all the cap space Houston does plus they have Josh Smith/Dirk.

Sending out Martin, Morris, Toronto pick, Dallas pick, 2 NY 2nd rounders, and 2 of Patterson/Jones/D-Mo for Howard.

We could still field:

Aaron Brooks / Tony Douglas
Courtney Lee / Jeremy Lamb
Chandler Parsons / Royce White
Luis Scola / (Luer/Jones/D-mo/Patterson)
Howard / Asik

Thats a pretty solid team to be honest. Money for CP3 or Josh Smith in the offseason as well.

Lee hasn't gone anywhere yet and he's not going to give up so much that it prevents him from making other moves.

You do understand that the same would apply if they did a 3 way deal where they get Bynum, correct? If Houston structures a less lucrative package because they're getting Bynum instead of Howard then the Magic has very little reason to bite.

We just signed DMo so he can't be trade for a month which means he is staying unless both teams are willing to wait 30 days to make a deal.

That is not a solid team. Comon now.

After PF/C that lineup falls off so much its not even funny. Those guys are all bench players being forced to start.

Looks like Houston might be getting somewhere.

HOU source says they believe they are in the lead. B. Lopez given credit for creating much of the leverage, he does not want to wait for s&t

Can you name me a PG as good and young as Dragic being paid less money than 8 million/year?
Trading Lowry wouldn't be necessary if they had done a sign and trade with the Raptors for Dragic instead.
Yes, the pick is what Morey was after but he's also being cheap.
