Indiana should be ahead if they match Hibbert and add an extra piece or two.

Rumor is they aren't matching him. They just paid through the teeth for George Hill for no reason and I don't see what pieces are really there for them to add.

Yep. The way the Blazers are rumored to have structured Hibbert's contract, the Pacers will be hard pressed to add one extra piece, let alone two if they match.

If the rumor is accurate, what they've done is given him a signing bonus, so he's going to be paid a total of 17.2 mil next season. On top of that, apparently there is a stipulation in the contract in which half of that 17.2 mil must be paid before Oct 15th. Again, this is just rumor, but it does fit into how the Blazers have structured their previous two contracts that they offered to RFA. Milsap and Matthews both had large signing bonuses that needed large chunks of cash paid up front.

Green is gone I think. I almost woulda preferred we keep him over Marshon but we just couldnt offer him the mini mle with our depth problems up front. anyway yeah if we dont get howard A LOT has to come together but the team will be very interesting, more fun to watch and follow than if it was just Dwight. remember how fast things changed when Kidd got here? it could happen again. winning attitude goes a long way. New arena, new fanbase, who knows?

But he's got very lazy in the rebounding department

And his slow feet and decision making on the defensive end hurts us constantly

So if we wanna win NBA Championship then we definitely need Dwight Howard...

... unless Brook Lopez dramatically improves
Well since he's 24 I don't see why he can't greatly improve on his game. Especially since he would be playing on a good team for the first time ever.

Here's the thing with the way we are currently setup...

Even if Brook turns into a 23/8 monster this season, big impact type guy, our defense will be suspect.

To have any shot at any type of contention we still need a player like Garnett, Tyson Chandler, Nene, Al Hordford, Noah or maybe Ibaka or Varejoa next to Brook quite literally and specifically.

Guys like Hump, Ilysova, Millsap, these guys aren't going to cut it no matter how good Brook became.

Hell Dirk couldn't win a title until they got Chandler and he had some immensely talented on paper squads around him that racked up wins upon wins in the regular season off talent and entertaining offense before that and even if Brook does go beast he's a fringe top 15 player and more likely in that 20 to 25 range and doesn't compare to Dirk in the least.

What about signing Camby to put with Brook? (even though they're both really centers)
Lopez with Camby off the bench?

Nope, not a contender.

A welcome addition, but not the impact of the guys I listed, not the fit of the guys I listed.

You literally and specifically need one of the guys I listed.

If Dwight winds up in LAL it's more or less a wrap anyway but then you really need one of the guys I listed.

you're convinced humphries cant be that guy? hes tough, fast, athletic. i think with a defensive minded team (wallace and johnson are good on d) we could get it to work.

Yes, I'm sure Hump is not that guy.

Hump is a bad defender.
