Mario Chalmers
So what is the general consensus around Super Mario? Is he someone that is going to fit in, long term with the team, or if a player becomes available to upgrade the PG spot, do we move on it?
Just thinking out loud.. Mario has been clutch multiple times over his career here, but can also be a liability with poor D and boneheaded play at times. When he is OFF, his entire game is off, when he is on, he can be a difference maker when teams key in on Dwade and Bron.
Where do you guys see Chalmers in 2-3 years? If a distributor like Nash (obviously not at his HOF numbers, but a 7-9 assist guy) was available and we could afford him, would it make sense to opt more for a distributor than streak shooter / scorer? I think Chalmers averaged under 4 assists again last year.

Re: Mario Chalmers
He's the ideal PG to play on this team.
Someone who can shoot the ball, play D, and do everything we need from a "PG"

He's here for the next 2 years, at least. for the right price i believe he'll stay here much longer then that. he's a good fit, doesn't cost much, everybody likes him, he's clucth, and we dont really need a playmaker when we have Wade and LBJ.
I think he can be even better next year.

That is the way I was leaning as well. I expect him to improve his mental lapses even more with another year of experience.
However, with up to 3 shooters on the floor on at any given time, I'd like to see him distribute a bit more next year.
One thing I remember from the Indy series when we were tied 1-1 going in to a hostile environment was thinking that Chalmers would be key.. He went off that game, the infamous DWade meltdown game... It's scary at times to think that Chalmers can be the key to this team when we get stagnant on offense.. Gotta give him credit for coming through in the playoffs.

The fact that Mike Bibby played more than 1 second in the Finals is gross.

Re: Mario Chalmers
When big 3 came together, I told my friends that Mario should be the starting point guard! The one thing we did bad last year was start Bibby in playoffs! He came through this year and forced teams to pay attention to him on the floor! He also initiated the offense more! But more importantly he has the confidence of hitting big shots in the finals that will carry on into this year!

You mean Mario **** Chalmers?!
Exactly. Also, he's clutch; he makes big plays when you need him to circa June 2012

Of course he is. He spreads the floor, run with Wade and Bron, and hopefully make the perfect pass.

Re: Mario Chalmers
Like others have said, the ideal PG for this team. He needs to consistently knock down jumpers and 3 pointers. Also needs to stop picking up cheap fouls. That's really the only thing about him that drives me nuts.

Re: Mario Chalmers
Rio is young and has a deeper game than he gets credit for. I said it from the overtime game against ATL, where he and Bosh put in work.
His handle improved this season, as did his finishing in the paint. The floater he used sparingly last season, has become a vital part of his game. He was also hot from 3 early in the season, and I hope he can find a way to maintain that kind of performance. His midrange jumpshot was wet too. I think that was overlooked. Rio was automatic from midrange in the first half of the season.
Something I feel gets overlooked is that Rio was healthy this season. That high-ankle from his sophomore year was re-aggravated in his 3rd season. He wasn't that quick on cuts, so he didn't attack the paint very much. He was also compromised on lateral quickness, and he wasn't able to stay in front of guys on defense. He has been more explosive on the attack now, even dunking a few times this season. He's also been doing a much better job on quick guards on defense.
I'd like to keep Rio, but I know him and Cole are gonna be tradebait for the forseeable future. Chalmers might play his way into a big payday. He took less money this time, so maybe he does the same again. PEACE.

Re: Mario Chalmers
He improved so much last season. His three point shooting was great, but he got really streaky towards the end of the year and the playoffs. He saved us in game 4, and when he has to, he can create his own shot, he's not just a set shooter. His passing is still really inaccurate sometimes and I think his pass selection could improve at times but he's on a very affordable contract so we don't have much room to complain.
