most accurate irving comparison

Post#1 » by fart » Sat Jul 7, 2012 4:07 am

I've heard a lot of people saying chris paul, but I think a more accurate comparison would be deron williams, a guy who can shoot, drive and is a scorer. I think Irving will become a better scorer than paul, but not as good of a passer. that's exactly what williams is also.

The best comparison i can think of is a more athletic (but less smooth) steve nash. People underrate kyries passing ability so much because they don't really watch him play. Kyrie is a pass first point guard with a pure stroke and an incredible ability to slice up defenses using his quickness and extremely herky jerky crossover. He definitely has the most ankle breaking crossover as well as a deadly spin move while driving to the basket. Last year he would primarily spend the first 3 quarters of each game trying to let others get involved. There were times where him and sessions would play together and kyrie would let Sessions initiate things(boobie 2 sometimes). Also last years cavs team did not have many scorers besides jamison so there are more than a few reasons why some people may think he had low assist numbers but make no mistake; in the first 3 quarters of the game Kyrie is primarily a pass first point guard and sometimes played off the ball. In the Fourth quarter however he becomes a new beast. Always attacking the rim and making acrobatic lay ups or passes. His main weakness is eerily similar to Steve Nash as well, and im talkin about defense. Kyrie has the ability to block shots on breaks and also has shown potential to play passing lanes but his on ball defense needs some major improvement imo. Its not that he is slow laterally but it seems like he doesnt put forth maximum effort. i think coach scott really got on him last season about this and at times he did look better. I really think that he is the best out of the next generation point guards are concerned(id rate Rubio and Wall after him). What i am looking forward to the most is seeing how him and Waiters play together. If they mesh well together than the sky is the limit...

Chris Paul is a better scorer than Deron Williams.

Whole vibe about Kyrie gives me, he's going to be that guy that people are going to compare to.

His style of play is conservative, one would think he needs less athleticism than Nash, although, he has a lot of that, very skilled player.

I hate comparisons... you just spend your time expecting him to emulate someone else... like another poster said, he's a different beast. He's almost 6'4, has Nash shooting numbers, can get to the rim at will and finish with both hands, and has amazing court vision. I think he's in a league of his own personally.

The thing is, Kyrie is a way better shooter than Paul was early on, making him really his own entity. Not many people play like Kyrie played his first year. He's going to be filthy good once he builds his playmaking skills.

Offense like CP3, mentality like Deron(nicer than CP3 on the court), defense like Nash. Just kidding on the defense part. I would not disrespect Kyrie like that.

That's completely fine, PG's defense is the least part of overall team defense.

Dont get me twisted...his style of play is not like steve nash, but his mentality to spread the floor is very similar. I get the cp3 comparisons but i think kyrie is a lot more dangerous driving the lane and shooting the ball. Hes till very young so who knows how good he can be

D Will. I would say CP3 at first but then DWill can shoot the 3 better and so can Kyrie.

Crazy handles oh man.
