What do we do without Dwight?

Post#1 » by OgFergison » Wed Jul 11, 2012 3:36 pm

If we do not trade for Dwight today what do we do? Let's say that we do not and the Magic hang on to them until he is a FA. Do we wait for him and sign him them or put our time and money into Brook Lopez? i would be content with Brook down low. He is on Dwight Howard by any stretch of the imagination but i think if you put him at the 5 and have Hump play the 4 for some defense.

In reality, probably not too much we can do regarding Dwight.

Hopefully/Unrealistically, we would be able to move Lopez next summer for draft picks and expiring contracts, then sign Dwight for much less than what he's worth... praying he'll take a major pay cut to put together an amazing team that can win multiple championships and find marketing deals to get him more money to compensate for a smaller NBA salary.

Like I said though, unrealistically.

you forgot teletovic and the possibility of resigning green. I would rather see Green back than Hump. We also just signed Jerry Stackhouse.

Resign Lopez, hope that the team can put it together. There is no way the Nets can sign him in a hypothetical free agency.

If Howard isn't a Net by the end of today, he won't be for the next 4-5 years.

I don't understand why we've never heard a peep about the Nets going after Josh Smith. An athletic forward, with the ability to mask Lopez's rebounding deficiencies, would seem to be just what he need. And you would imagine he's available, given that Atlanta is rebuilding and he's in the final year of his contract.

well considering we just traded for joe johnson instead of josh smith I dont see him as an option... who would we trade for him? you said it yourself, they are rebuilding and jsmoove is an expiring contract, so they wouldnt take back a signed and traded humphries on a new deal, we have nothing to offer them other than lopez

I was thinking the same picks package we were offering for Dwight, minus Lopez. Would probably need to work in a third team willing to take Hump, etc. Not saying it would necessarily work out, just wondering why it's not something anyone has discussed as a possibility.

I don't see why trading for Joe Johnson renders Josh Smith not an option. Obviously, we were preserving other assets for a run at Howard. If that doesn't work out, I don't see why Smith should be off the table (unless there's a "you can only trade for one Hawk per year" provision in the CBA I'm unfamiliar with).

haha there might be a provision like that in the CBA wouldnt be surprised... but nah I just meant that its probably unlikely to pull another big trade off with the same team in one week. Ur right its not an impossible scenario I just think thats why no one is talking about that anymore.

Thats a very bold statement.

Whats to stop a deal being done before the trade deadline or from Jan onwards?

If he is traded to Houston and is still demanding Brooklyn why cant we trade for him before the deadline again?

I fail to see how its a given he won't be with Brooklyn in the next 4-5 years. Anything could happen

Is it even possible to re-sign Green? Don't think it is.

Sign Gaines to a two year del at 5 mil per. The 2nd year being entirely unguaranteed or it a team option.

I like the Gaines idea, its kinda crazy but if we have unlimited money the best way to get new talent here.

For a while now people have been saying that Hump would be a back up on a good team at best..... Arn't we that good team now? If so sign him up! Stackhouse signing I'm not very high on.... Is it because he would be way cheaper than Green? Also could someone please explain (for the millionth time lol) Why we can't sign or keep Green? I'm having a brain fart right now :-?

Don't have any exceptions or his Bird Rights, so the most the Nets could give him is the vet min.

Problem is Hump wants top caliber starting money to be a backup now.
