DC traded for Mahinmi

Post#1 » by Crowman » Thu Jul 12, 2012 12:17 am

Jonathan Givony ‏@DraftExpress
Indiana will acquire Ian Mahinmi (4-years, 16 million) in a sign and trade with Dallas. Darren Collison and Danhtay Jones go to Dallas.

Horrible trade just awful

Ian Mahinmi is nothing special at all. I hope he does well, but he never impressed me with Dallas, so I wish Indiana the best with him.

Dallas loves this deal obviously. Ian will frustrate you guys. He has a really nice skill set. Hes got good size/length/mobility. He has good hands for a center and nice touch out to about 15-18 feet. He also commits stupid fouls and doesnt rebound very well or offer much defensively.

But anyway this really helps us so I hope you get some use out of him.

We do need a backup Center and Mahinmi is probably one of the better ones in the league

Addition by subtraction. Hopefully people on this board will stop pretending like Collison is a good player. He's turrible.

Hansbrough for Augustin next? I'm not a big fan of Augustin but at least we are getting rid of the scrubs.

So the Jackson and Harrington trade ultimately got us to 4 years of Ian Mahinmi..

But I'm glad we have more insurance up front already this year. Still, I don't think Dallas would have matched the deal since they're trying to save cap space. Oh well, Jones was largely useless since he had to be a sf and we couldn't afford to pay Collison a Hill-like contract next year.

I dont like this trade. But it can only mean one thing. They just cleared out two of the teams main backups from last season so they must be anticipating getting good production from Lance and possibly a free agent. Hopefully its Mayo.

Mahinmi played his but off last year and especially in the playoffs.

If he keeps this up and improves, I think the pacers got a solid back up which is extremely valauble in a league where most of the top teams back up bigs suck.

Hmm...I wanted Mahinmi because I thought he'd be more of a 3/$9 kind of guy, not a 4/$12 kind of guy.

Either way, we ultimately cut salary in this deal. About $900,000 or so, depending on the first year salary of Mahinmi.

I would hope we'd get a pick or some sort of draft rights out of this deal as well. Hell, if they would've given us the #17 pick during the draft, I'm sure we could have come to a more mutually beneficial agreement.

Either way, we've added much more depth to the front court, while we still have avenues to recover and rebuild our backcourt.

Roy and West starting with Hansbrough (at least, right now), Pendergraph, Plumlee, and Mahinmi off the bench. Looks like Lou and Fesenko are gone, which is ultimately ok.

Now, however, we definitely need to rebuild the bench from PG to SF.

3 centers? Plumlee can play some center just as Jeff Foster did but his real future is at the 4. This gives us a true center. but yes you really do need 3 centers on the active roster just as you need 3 point guards.

moving Collison is an indication that he wasn't going to be happy playing behind Hill. no need for an unhappy player. makes you wonder about releasing AJ though. whose the backup point guard? Stephenson or is he a two as Bruno wrote?

moving D Jones is an indication that both Lance and OJ are expected to be active. I still see a need for a three though.

looks like Fes is out of the picture. I'm not sure what it says about Barbosa.

I'm with Scoot, I hope a pick comes along with Mahimi to even things out.

DJones for Mahimi is fair value, so adding Collison was stupid.

Regardless, our frontcourt is now loaded with Giants.

Now Paul George isn't the second tallest anymore, that's good.

The sign and trade deal with DJ Augustin is around 2 years/7.5 million, according to a Bobcats poster who is in with DJ's family and broke the news a few days ago. I just saw that Woj is reporting it so I figured it's probably true and worth posting on your board now.

Indiana prefers a sign and trade over signing him outright to an offer sheet. Charlotte was gonna match if it was 2 years 5 million or less. Either way, DJ is vastly underpaid when you see all these contracts being handed out. He's good enough to be your starting point guard

Augustin
Stephenson
Green
Plumlee
Mahinmi

That could be a good bench if everybody plays their role, unlike last year where only Lou and Dahntay wanted to play D and everybody wanted to be MJ or Kobe.
