He's shocking hip to youth cultures.
Pretty good. Some amazing parts even. Serious wisdom. Not much focus though and Joe stepping on Josh with his idiot reductions of what Barnett is saying. And they run out of time just as Josh is really hitting his stride with some crazy philosophizing. **** Redban and Joe ate up the first 40 minutes of the tape with their stoner giggling.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
2011 #1 BE WW prospect Gunnar Nelson and Ronnie's favorite fighter Tom "Kong" Watson both signed w/ UFC as well.
They are all transferring from BAMMA which makes one wonder about the status of that organization now. BAMMA are either on the ropes or finally decided to free those talents out of respect to their best interests all of a sudden. Either way, it was the UFC's gain. These 3 guys were being talked about as some of the most major organization ready "prospects" in MMA.
Tom Kong will debut vs. Brad Tavares at UFC on Fuel 5 in Nottingham. Manuwa will fight on the same night, however his opponent has yet to be determined. That should be a fun card.

Great signings. I was waiting for Kong to come over.

When I put down my Cheetos each day for 15 mins, I like to watch cool videos.
Rogan's "take the back" move here was awesome.

Bones Jones on a fight with Silva...
"We're in completely different weight classes. We both have sponsor deals and things that are really important to us and a big part of that sponsorship package is being a winner -- being a champion," Jones said. "Having us fight each other means one of our championships goes away.”
It's not that he won't fight me or I won't fight him," Jones said. "To be dead honest, it's that we both have a lot to lose and we both respect each other a lot and we both are striving for personal greatness. I don't want to crack on his greatness and I don't want him cracking on my greatness.”
"I respect Anderson Silva so much that I don't want to be the guy to beat him. I don't want to lose to him either. It's a lose-lose situation for me."

Fight at catch-weight, UFC offers to subsidise any lost sponsorships. Problem solved imo. They still wouldn't do it though

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
He calls Rashad his brother, they make a pact that they would never fight. Then he comes out and says in an interview he would do so if Dana wanted it behind Rashad's back.
Now he doesn't want to fight Anderson because he has "too much respect"? Meh.
Then again I'm probably just bitter because its my dream fight by far.
edit: This could be Bones just being respectful and not calling out a guy in a lower weight class though. You don't call out a guy unless you are willing to fight at his weight imo. Although I guess he could say he would be down if Anderson is or something.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
One loss for either guy won't crack either of their greatness. Even if Silva loses, he would still be considered the GOAT for the time being. If Jones loses and eventually makes a run at heavyweight to become HW champ, would anyone even care that he lost to Silva?
Jones says he wants to be the greatest of all time. Beating Anderson would be a monumental step in that direction.

I do get where Jones is coming from, in terms of the awkwardness of fighting a guy he probably molded his game after coming up.
It's an absolute dream fight, but I just can't see either guy doing it.
I think there may be some small hope to get GSP to fight Silva, very small, but not Jones.
I saw this elsewhere.

I'm listening now, he kind of comes off as an angry dude to me, which is somewhat surprising.

Yeah. I agree. A little too 'live & let die' (maybe actual enjoyment from the latter, in fact) and no real sign of conscience either. But, heck, the guy's super intelligent and lives a well-considered life. I'll take it.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Yea he's definitely smart and ponders a lot of stuff, which is cool. Hell, I can actually dig the cynicism. I think the part that threw me off (I'm still not quite done with it) is how he comes off as kind of insecure. Dude, you are a 255 pound mma fighter who would only get your ass kicked by like 7 dudes on any given night anytime ever lol.
Is there really a need to "stick your elbows out" so guys can't walk past you at a concert, and when a guy gets upset by it to tell him how big of a badass you are? Just talking casually about nearly getting into fights with normal sized (non professional fighting) humans came off as bizarre to me, and something that would take a lack of self-awareness / excess of insecurity that I was surprised he'd have after hearing him talk for awhile.

It's disappointing when MMA fighters display stereotypical MMA fan behaviour. Might as well slap a Tapout shirt on him and have him knock out dudes who ask him for the time. I don't understand how these massive buff guys can be so insecure.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
Did you listen, sdm? I don't want you to characterize him based on what I said, that was a small part of the podcast. Just something that was surprising to me. Added to it though, was his insistence that just training a certain art, etc. didn't really make you a "fighter". Just again insecurity imo, as if some dude who trains bjj or boxing every week or two is really challenging him as to who is the real "fighter" or something.
I don't know for sure, but I imagine if I was a top 10 heavyweight fighter in the world, I really doubt I'd care if some weekend warrior fancied himself a fighter or not.

No, I didn't listen. I will though, at some point, just making a general comment.

Re: Non-threadworthy MMA Rumors/Quotes/Tweets, etc.
I like Joe's podcast, but the MMA fighter episodes and the people with interesting expertise are my favs.
I used to hang around a lot of stand-ups, and although funny people, really gets old, quick.
I'd love to have a Dana White, here's some old stories from way back, boxing days, everything.
Dana must have some epic stories.
They said it was going to happen, still has not.
