Let's get realistic about what Houston will offer and be willing to take back.
First of all, I'm firmly in the camp that Morey will designate Donatas Motiejunas and Royce White as "untouchable." I believe that the package will center around the Toronto pick (which will be somewhere between 8-12 because they'll improve a bit, with the upgrade at PG and C) and one or two of their own picks (or the one which they have rights to switch with NYK) the players offered will be some combination of Lamb Parsons and Jones (i'd also want brockman) - and they'll most likely be taking back (depending on if they amnesty Scola or not) ONE of JRich and Hedo and possibly Duhon as a kicker. We may have to sweeten the deal by throwing in Harper but I think we're all fine with that.
We're NOT getting motiejunas, white AND all the other players. we get a possible top 10 pick, two young and promising NBA starter wings in Lamb and Parsons, a combo forward (they are the future) with a lot of potential in Jones (or this could be Morris - which is a big downgrade and Brockman) and a few mid to late 1st round picks in exchange for Dwight, JRich (I'd prefer if they took him, i think we all do) and possibly Duhon and Harper.
We'll tank the season and possibly enter the 2013 draft with two top 10 picks and the rebuild will officially be underway.
all clear? say aye

I've asked people who think this, why didn't he go along with the trade knowing he'd only have to be there for a few months? The only response I've seen is "because Dwight is dumb"... Have a better answer to provide?

Even this is too much unfortunately. People just have to remember it's a one year rental and Dwight just had back surgery. If Dwight was willing to do an extension, there's no doubt the FO could get the same type of deal the Nuggets got for Melo. But he's not, so his value is severely decreased.
Since Henny has basically made it known he doesn't want Bynum by now I think, Houston knows they're the only ones with assets he wants and they're really the only team left in the race (LA still lingers, they'd jump back in if he changes his mind, but they're merely lurking in the shadows at this point) so their offer is going to be low.
I heard a report when the Rockets deal initially started again that Houston was offering K-Mart, Patrick Patterson, the Toronto pick, and one more pick. Morey told Henny to go take the Brooklyn deal if he didn't like it, and Henny balked. Since then they went back to Brooklyn to maybe try to up the ante but at this point I don't see Morey biting too hard. He's not offering anything else but is instead willing to take on one more bad contract
I disagree White is untouchable, I think Lamb is the one who would be untouchable (with K-Mart leaving they have no scoring wings). I think the best deal Henny is looking at is
Toronto 1st round pick
Houston 2017 1st round pick
Kevin Martin
Royce White/Terrance Jones (either one or someone like Parsons)
and then they'd be willing to take on J-Rich, Duhon, and one more bad contract. I don't think Q-Rich is a bad deal but maybe the FO thinks he is
chunnyboy wrote:btw - if the REALISTIC houston-orl trade goes through like i see it - houston could field a pretty damn interesting team on the floor next season- given they make the right PG play for the MLE or something like that... say... a Ramon Sessions type?
Dwight Howard / Jon Leuer
Donatas Motiejunas / Patrick Patterson
Royce White
Kevin Martin / Jason Richardson
Ramon Sessions / Courtney Fortson / Chris Duhon
Depending on how Motiejunas and White fare in their rookie season... that frontcourt MIGHT be just enough to convince Dwight to stay -
chunnyboy wrote:2017? that's a little too far off but as long as that (top3 protected?) toronto pick comes... i actually prefer royce white over lamb so that'd be huge and kevin martin provides cap relief and if we do indeed tank puts us on the fast track to draft shabazz right? shabazz and royce white is gonna be fun

I don't think anyone cares, go ask on the rockets forum sounds like that's where you should be anyways.

Houston can't trade next year's pick if they make the playoffs (which they probably would with Dwight) and they can't trade 2015 either. So 2017 is the earliest they can trade their own pick I believe - since they couldn't find a 1st for Scola
