Re: Depth Chart
No way Battier starts at the 4 for an entire regular season IMO. Either Haslem or Lewis will start there.

For the most part, I actually agree to start the game off. But in crunchtime, I'm not so sure. I'm just really curious who starts out of Battier/Haslem and Lewis. Haslem has really dropped off the last few years. Is he still good enough to start? If Lewis recovers from his injury, is he the best player of the 3? Does Battier keep his form from the playoffs?

Who starts at the 5 then? I hope it's not Haslem, and I especially hope it's not Jo-lol. I don't mind so much if we start Dexter throughout the meaningless regular season, get his fitness level up, and try and expediate his learning curve so he's a better center for us come playoff time.
I'm expecting that year 3 (with a full off-season) will be Dexter's break-out year, but is he ready to start? He would have to improve his fitness considerably.

He is, but I don't think he would struggle playing the 5 for a full season, at least not in the same way that Bron or Battier would struggle playing the 4.
I think it really will depend on personnel and health
If Lewis can play like he did 2 years ago, when he averaged 12/5 in 32 minutes and shot 36% from 3, I think he's the obvious starter (even though I wouldn't expect him to average 12 ppg obviously). Even that Lewis is better than any big on our roster other than Bosh.
But if he can't get to that level, but Haslem starts hitting his 15-17 footer again, then he's gotta be the choice to start, given his rebounding.
If neither can recapture their form, then Joel seems like the best option to start, at C, with Bosh at the PF.

Re: Depth Chart
I really don't think Battier will start at PF either.
It's something Spo had to do because Bosh was injured. He stuck with it because it worked. But that will not work with every team.
Battier held his own against West (West still had the advantage), and he did a great job taking Ibaka out of the paint.
HOWEVER, are you really going to start Battier against like, Pau Gasol?
This team believes in "It's not how you start, but how you finish". We will see I guess.
Bosh can't play Center the whole season and Battier or even LeBron can't play PF the whole season. Hell we might even see Rashard start and Battier back to the bench. We don't know how well he will contribute for us. Especially being a stretch 3/4.

Re: Depth Chart
Thing is, outside of Dwight, Bynum, Hibbert, Gasol, the rest of the NBA have centers that would most likely have played PF maybe 3-5 years ago. It's just not a center league anymore so CB playing the 5 wouldn't make as much difference next year as it would have in the past. Riley alluded to this yesterday in the press conferences with Ray and Rashard.
However, we need a defensive big for the situation I stated above... especially if we meet them in the playoffs.

Because we play PFs like Pau Gasol every game of the season.

Re: Depth Chart
I'd prefer to leave JA as the starter TBH. I'm inclined to think JA is capable of playing the first 5-6 minutes of each half because the big 3, who he'd be playing with alongside Chalmers, has so much firepower offensively. They can (somewhat) mask his offensive deficiencies. On the other hand, if JA runs with the 2nd unit he wouldn't be playing with as much talent offensively so his weaknesses would be more exposed. You can put JA on the likes of Gasol, Bynum, Howard, Love, LMA, KG, Stoudemire, Josh Smith, etc. so Bosh doesn't have to pick up cheap fouls early in the game or at the start of the 2nd half.

That's probably what Spo and his staff are thinking. But... Joel's offensive deficiencies and his lack of rebounding (stone hands...) are just... yuck.

Guess you didn't really read my post... taking out just that one line doesn't conclude what I was trying to say.
I said this team is all about their ending and not how they start. Obviously not every game there will be a Pau Gasol, but it's a bad match up for the Heat on the defensive end. That's where the "Heat might end up with a taller/better match with Pau at the end of the game".
They'd probably start him anyway but at the end, Battier wouldn't guard him. Get it?

Re: Depth Chart
This is getting to be really stupid and redundant.
Chris Bosh will not be our starting center in the our Regular Season!!!!
Chris Bosh will get spot minutes at center, but no more than 10-15 a night. Joel is looking like he is going to be our starting center again next season.
Shane Battier will not be our starting Power Foward in the Regular season!!
Shane Battier is going to be our backup 3. Rarely will you see him playing the 4.
C: Joel/ Pitt/ ??
PF: CB / UD/ Rashard
SF: Lebron/ Battier/ JJ
SG: Wade/ Allen/ Miller
PG: Rio/ Cole/ ??
I would prefer to add 2 bigs to our current roster. Terrell is pretty much gone unless Miller retires.

Re: Depth Chart
LOL one of those big red statements is definitely right, but one of them is far from obvious
Bosh himself has talked about playing significant minutes at C. Pat has suggested that Bosh should be volunteering to play C. Bosh is the same size as most Cs

Re: Depth Chart
Maybe its just me, but I would be satisfied bringing back Turiaf. He never really got a lot of minutes due to being out of basketball shape. But I think a full training camp and full season would do him and the team some good.
Plus, when he's not in the game, its good to see someone as excited as I am watching this team perform.

So you don't want Joel or UD to start but are fine with Pittman? You know these two are better than him right? Dexter still doesn't even know how to use his body properly in a lot of situations, let alone lacks the conditioning to be a regular season starter. He'll need a lot of work off the court in order to justify regular playing time. Aside of that, quicker, more athletic "centers" (because especially UD isn't one) like Haslem and Anthony benefit our defensive schemes a lot more than a big, slow body a la Pittman.
If UD can be consistent with his 15-footer again, he's the obvious choice, as he delivers the most complete package for our style of play out of all the options.

Why do people hate The Warden so much?
The man can play C for this team. He's not needed on Offensive end, but on the Defensive end he's more than capable of starting.
Do you people forget back in 2011, the Heat went on a 21-1 run or something like that. JA was our starting center. And he did an exceptional job.
There is only 1 dominant C in this league, and The Warden didnt do to bad on him.
My only knock on The Warden is, I'd like his rebound number to be around 7-8. Hustle just a little harder for those boards.
People, Watch the games. Not the box Score. PLEASE!
