not to be a negative nelly but this does virtually ensure we don't get Batum right?
we didn't pull off an S and T so the Blazers will match yeah?

I realize we could use the cap space on someone else instead.

I think Darko was going to have to be amnestied no matter what happened with Batum.

Batum is gone. Next. (Glad Kahn didn't cave to Portland's demands--Pek or Williams, most likely.)

yeah but we all agree the Blazers match right? if they weren't going to they would have just taken the draft picks.

If the Wolves feel the Blazers are sure to match hopefully the Wolves stick some nice parting gifts into the offer sheet for Batum (assuming they actually make one at some point) maybe a 10 to 20% trade kicker on top of the $11 or so million per year, would certainly force Portland to sink or swim with Batum if they opt to match because I don't think he's got trade value at $12-14 million per season.

Most likely, there's a small chance they are just trying to scare us from giving him an offer sheet, but I doubt it.

This does not affect the S&T option. It's not like Darko was going to be included in a deal to Portland. They already used their amnesty on Roy.

Dumping Darko happens regardless of anything else. IMO, if/when we dump Miller and Webster, then signs are pointing more towards either offering the deal to Batum (daring Portland to match) or moving on to someone else.

Olshey can say he will match no matter what, but at $11 million, he might pause and second guess that decision. It's a lot of money for a role player who shows glimpses of potential.

This probably closes the Batum situation, they will match, we move on to Lee, Hill, Iggy etc.

This is the Darko thread, not Batum thread.

But the Batum thread is now an occupy thread. Time for some crowd control, Klomp!

G'bye Darko!

Milicic was likely amnestied anyway. No real impact on the Batum-situation but I'm glad Kahn is getting serious about offering a deal. In fact, Olshey didn't really have to get serious until the Wolves made some moves to open up the cap-room - which is now being done. So I don't really see it tilting in either direction but a move toward the end of the situation.

Even if we were to offer and the Blazers match tlhere is a good chance that Williams puts up similar if not better numbers this year than Batum. In fact if they make similar improvements from year 1 to year 2 Williams would average 16.5 points/game.

Alex (Idaho):
Which team has a shot at/desire to claim Darko?

John Hollinger (12:15 PM):
Darko will likely pass through the amnesty auction because a higher bid will be required to cover the non-guaranteed portion on his second year. At that point somebody will sign him to a minimum or biannual exception type of deal; have to think Miami would give him a look, right?

lol when Darko gets another ring

Are we allowed to pay him the minimum if he passes through? Though I could see Miami offering the minimum and another ring (not sure if he wants to be associated w/ James, Wade, Bosh again though - would make for some fun storylines "2003 draft class wins title!")

Olshey's Master Plan - get the 1 year Center to cover while Leonard and Freeland adjust to the NBA - say a #2 pick for Vet Minimum - Welcome to Rip City Darko!
