Rockets to use amnesty clause on Scola?

Post#1 » by KiDdFrESh » Thu Jul 12, 2012 1:43 pm

I heard on sports talk radio this morning that it is rumored that the Rockets might use the amnesty clause on Luis Scola. I guess Morey has struggled to find a decent return for him. I'd prefer the Rockets to do that rather than adding any incentives to trade him. It shows we really want to tank and I'm all for it.

Maybe the cap space gained could help facilitate a deal with Orlando & LA? I still want Bynum.

Thoughts? And does anybody how this would affect the teams salary for this season?

I don't really know why we'd do that. Can someone explain the numbers? I haven't looked at the amnesty clause.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

it was a move to create more cap space so morey can do the trade for howard and still have enough to sign asik and lin to offer sheet
if everything goes as planned (chicago and ny don't match)
this will be the lineup
c - howard, asik
pf - ???
sf - turkoglu, parsons
sg - richardson
pg - lin, duhon

not sure which draftees will be traded
i think parsons is the only one not on the list for orlando to pick from

I'm not mad at the move, but I am mad at the motivation behind it. I still don't understand the point of gutting your whole roster when it's already going to be hard as hell to convince D12 to stay. Why would he stay when he's not in the market/city he wants, isn't playing for a better coach than the one he HATED before, and his squad is full of the same overpaid players he played with in Orlando. Morey is going to have to convince him that in 2 years he will build a contender because next year we won't have a lot of money to sign fa's if we're taking ALL these terrible contracts back from Orlando....

You want a superstar? You have to take on the bad contracts, Rockests did it even when they got McGrady.

Please don't trade for Howard! Just tank and develop our draft picks, I don't want to have another Rudy Gay situation!

So according to 610 radio, Morey nixed a deal on draft consisting of Lowry & Scola + our 3 firsts for Bynum? Do you blame him or would you have pulled the trigger?

The Magic are going to have maintain at least a 49 million dollar salary cap. It won't hurt them to pay a couple bums while they rebuild.

Just saw it as well:

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA
Houston has decided to use the amnesty provision on Luis Scola and will likely file with NBA on Friday, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA
Scola has three years and $21 million left on his contract. The Rockets are clearing space in pursuit of a Dwight Howard deal.

Well as a magic fan, i think this paves the way for a d12 trade. You guys now will pry take all of our bad contracts, with dwight...The only thing I would be wary about is...I have a feeling around the trade deadline, he will ask you guys to trade him to NETS...I just hope you don't do that...im sure its coming

Adrian Wojnarowski: The Rockets will soon have the space to absorb Orlando's Dwight Howard, Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu, Chris Duhon and Epcot Center. 2 minutes ago

New one:

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA
The Mavericks will be aggressive bidders for Scola on the amnesty wire, league sources said. Dallas is serious about Elton Brand too.

Well, it's gonna suck playing against Scola in a Mavs uniform. But if we're gonna feel like the Spurs did after giving him up, hopefully we'll be winning games like them wwhen we play him.
