Where is the confirmation of a done deal? What are the terms? Too many questions. On the surface, Sesssions replacing DJ is an upgrade due to his size alone. Depends on the cost though.

Sessions is an upgrade over Augustin, so I'm ok with this signing. It would not be wise to just hand the starting job over to Kemba, because his play last season gave us no indication that he deserves it. Sessions is bigger and he is a better player right now than Kemba. I won't be surprised if he ends up our opening day starter.

I'm not saying last season gave us a clear indication of what kind of player Kemba will become. I think we can throw out a lot of what happened last season for various reasons. I for one am pulling for Kemba to improve and show us any signs that he is the future at PG. But some of you are having too much blind faith in the guy. Kemba has to earn the job first. If anything, this should make an interesting battle come training camp. And that can only be good for Kemba.

That is hilarious, he had a bad playoffs, but he was 7th in the NBA in 3% in the regular season among all players with at least 50 attempts, and he attempted 97, ignore a whole season, and focus on a 12 game slump while he had a bad shoulder, that is a great idea.

The Charlotte Bobcats have an agreement in principle to sign veteran point guard Ramon Sessions, an informed source told the Observer Thursday.

A contract signing is expected soon, as Sessions was traveling Thursday and unavailable to finish paperwork. The Observer first reported the Bobcats’ interest in signing Sessions Wednesday night.

Sessions, a native of Myrtle Beach, will be playing for his fifth NBA team. The 6-foot-3 point guard has averaged 11.1 points and five assists over his NBA career, shooting 45 percent from the field.

He'll be a good backup and it's good to have a local guy.

I'm with you HR. On the surface it looks good - but I will hold judgement until we know what we are paying Sessions and for how long.

Plus what we are going to do with DJA.

I could actually see a 3 way trade happening (between us, the Pacers and the Lakers?)

when given the choice between two similar players, i'd always like to add a player with local ties. i think it makes a team more identifiable as well as gives them a common bond. thats one thing i liked about the ABA. when possible that league did a good job of getting local players to the local franchise (eg billy cunningham to the cougars)

the players we have been linked to this summer: jamison, brand, sessions, hickson, hansbrough and haywood all have local ties - dragic, humphries and lopez, not so much. but still, 6 out of 9 with local ties.

this is a great basketball area and we should use that to our advantage whenever possible.

do not confuse this with catering to local fans by adding a player of less quality just to sell tickets. there is a difference.

Fatlever, I'm with you. It's a definite plus that Sessions is from the area (Charleston). For those that are wondering about us giving him the starting job and that's why he came. Consider this. Where would he start in the league right now? Dallas seems to have gotten their guy in Sessions. Houston is still in complete limbo with Howard and Lin. What other team needs a starting PG? Sessions probably realized that he wasn't going to be signed on to be the man. He likely embraced the opportunity to come home and yes, I"m sure the Bobcats honestly told him that he could compete for the job. Why would you not want competition? I still think in the end though that Kemba will win out.

BTW, have to give Bonnell his props. He broke interest in Sessions last night....for probably the first time in his career he broke something before the national media (although he still didn't break the actual signing...just interest...we'll let it slide though, Haha.)

No more sign-and-trade speculation. As I predicted in this morning's Observer, ‪#Bobcats‬ rescind Augustin qualifying offer.

Well there you go; the crappy draft decision that was DJ Augustine now goes into the history books as among the worst ever. Passed on Lopez for an undersized guard who never put it together for us, and then let him go without compensation. So long DJ...and may I add "Ole'" since it will forever describe your defense.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

^ Looks like we’re just letting DJ walk and replacing him with Sessions.

Assuming this is around $4mil per year or less. Great signing. I was in favor of us pursuing Sessions a couple years ago.

To dispel some of the misinformation in this thread.

*Sessions is a poor shooter – @Viper beat me to the punch on this. Sessions has historically been a terrible outside shooter but last year he made the jump from poor to magnificent. He went from being a career ~20% 3 pt shooter to being one of the best in the league last year at 44%. This speaks volumes to his work ethic since he must have obviously put in a lot of work the previous offseason to polish his jumper to such a degree.

*Kemba is a better passer than Session – Give me an F’n break. The poster who mentioned this is either entirely blinded by his homerism or doesn’t know who Ramon Sessions is. Apart from Nash, Rondo, JC Paul and Dwill, Sessions is arguably the best passing PG in the league. He holds the Milwaukee franchise record for assist in a game at 24 and had several games last year where he recorded 12-16 assists.

*Sessions is a poor defender – Guilty as charged. He wont be shutting anyone down. This having been said, he is still a slight upgrade over DJ on this end of the ball and at least possesses decent size.

I hope this isn't an indication that we're trying to make cap-room for Sessions... meaning we're paying north of 7MM a year.

We should have kept him for S&T purposes if nothing else. We have now given up another former lottery pick for... NOTHING. I wonder if this means we're making another signing...

Don't forget Morrison, May, even Ajinca. Since this teams inception between them and possibly the Timberwolves they have had some rather horrific draft picks.

The funny thing is that some here believe we got an upgrade over Augustin with Sessions, the Pacers think they got an upgreade over Collison with Augustin................but what does that say about the Mavs and what they got???

Cheap PG option, at the same caliber as DJ & Sessions.
