1 year deal. Per Mike Wells.

Pacers have agreed to a 1 year deal with DJ Augustin, according to a source.

A one year deal is good, it lets him play and retest his market value in a years time.

The more and more I think about it, the more and more I'm confused. DJ Augustin is well known, his assets and traits have been very well scouted. I don't see why we're only signing him for a year, I think if we are trying to get a solid core we should be signing players longer.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski, Augustin will make $3.5 million this upcoming season.

A one year deal seems weird. We'll be at the cap once we resign Hibbert and Hill so we won't have flexibility in the future. Now is the time to lock up a player for a couple years just for purposes of stability. If he's on a one year deal would we even have the ability to exceed the cap to resign him?

Chad Ford (@chadfordinsider) from ESPN is killing us right now on twitter. Doesn't like the Dallas trade nor this signing.

I thought it would be a multi-year deal. An instant expiring contract, but i don't get it either as it is for the same reason we have shipped DC out.
We missing something? I sure do hope it is 2 - 3 years at the minimum.
Are we thinking Augustin could be cheaper than DC next season?

Its a good move; just wish they couldve got him for more than a one year deal. The down side is that the team retained Hansbrough.

Hill/Augustin
George/Born Ready/Johnson
Granger/Green
West/Hansbrough/Plumlee
Hibbert/Mahinmi/Plumlee

Maybe we can get a pick for him and open up about $3 million in capspace before we resign hibbert and Hill.

Augustin shoots a LOT. He doesn't make a ton of the shots he takes. He did average more PPG than Collison, but shot almost 7% worse. However, Collison fit in well with the second unit because everyone ran the floor and played top-speed basketball. If we were going to have Barbosa, Green, Hans, and Lou (don't know about Mahinmi yet), I'm sure Collison would be the point guard for us. It looks like the direction we're going is more of a half-court style offense with the shots coming from 1-3 and the 4 and 5 getting position for a rebound. At the very least that should slow the pace a little bit and give our guys time to rest without worrying about the other team having 15 possessions. It would seem now that the odd man out would be Hansbrough. As much as he hustles for rebounds and loose balls, I would think his fast-shot mentality would be counterproductive in what seems to be our new second unit offense.

I'm guessing that Augustin is willing to be the backup PG. I'm guessing that Collison made it clear that he was not.

Ultimately, chemistry is what matters. Can't have a guy in the locker room who has lost his battle. Especially one that thinks, right or wrong, that he lost his starting job because he got injured.

Ultimately, I'm guessing that Augustin wasn't happy that his market was only $3.5m or so and wants a chance to re-hit the market next year. We just don't have too much of a say in it.

At this point, I would have interest in moving Hansbrough for something of future use, or another SG. Ultimately, Plumlee can replace the hustle at PF, and Pendergraph can continue to be the developmental prospect at PF.

Not disappointed in these prospects. Ultimately, though, I could be happier.

Did Augustin (drafted #9 in '08) just become the highest drafted player on our team?

Today is only the second day that contracts can be signed and we've already inked two players and made a S&T deal with rumors of Hansbrough on the move too. It seems like they keep things pretty under wraps in the new front office since none of this was leaking until the day it happened (Augustin rumors yesterday I guess), but clearly these things were in the works since we jumped on them once the opportunities presented themselves.

That's a great signing. He's underappreciated as a playmaker who's been suffering with the weakest supporting cast in the NBA.

Especially in a season without Derrick Rose, you guys just got a lot better.
