Scola is going to command around $8 million per season or so on the open market, and he deserves it. Brand will also probably get at least a mid level deal, or the mini mid level. Haywood and Darko are realistic options for the vet minimum provided they clear waivers.

What works in our favor for Haywood is the fact that Riley already did a bit of recruiting and reached out to him back in the summer of 2010. I believe Heat brass actually met with him. Wasn't Haywood+Felton our fall back options to LeBron choosing to take his talents elsewhere?

Chalmers/Cole
Wade/Allen/Miller
James/Battier/JJ
Bosh/Haslem/Lewis
Haywood/Joel/Pittman

I'd start Haywood (maybe only in the regular season if Bosh at C works better in the postseason), but end up giving him 15-20 minutes per. Let Vernado, Hamilton, Harris, or one of the other young guys battle it out for the final roster spot. Maybe even Greg Oden.

That's perfect.

Could have a postseason rotation of:

Chalmers/Wade
Wade/Allen
LeBron/Battier
Haslem/Lewis
Bosh/Haywood

You're set for a repeat with that.

I think we are going to end up with one of Darko or Haywood.

Haywood I feel can help contribute right away more. However, Darko is younger, and in a sense, has something to prove. He also makes us more versatile since he is mobile and can shoot the long ball, spacing the floor even more. However, he has a huge motivation problem. If he comes here however, I presume that it would not be without some sort of guarantee about performing 110% every night from Darko to Riley.

Is this the last offseason to use the amnesty?

it's gonna be an intersting couple of days...about 40 something hours left.

Haywood/Darko/Turiaf in that order i think.

Worst case - I still believe we could trade for dalembert during the season.

But Haywood for vet min or for Miller's disabled player exception = Sweet.

I hope Miller and the doctors make a decision soon. Either he retires or sits the year out. I think the only way we get the exception is if Miller is forced to sit out the year, or if he has to MEDICALLY retire.

Are you sure about that? I could've sworn I've seen some GM's say they'll save their amnesty for another year

What happens is we don't use it? Do we get any incentive for not having bad contracts?

See I'm thinking the amnesty would be used by us next year on Mike Miller's contract. It would save Mickey a ton of cash due to the tax level (I think it's like for every dollar above the luxury tax level, you have to pay $1.45 or something). But if this is the last year to use it, financially and personnel wise, it makes sense to use it on Mike. We're loaded at the wing position.

Nope.

It's an incentive to be able to use it in the first place.

I dont think theres a deadline perse for the amnesty, the rule is that you can amnesty one player that was under contract before the new CBA for the duration of that contract.... so we can amnesty Miller for the duration of his contract.....i think thats the rule, but i can be wrong....

I don't even think he'd clear waivers honestly. lol And I think he will rather go through an injury retirement (i think that gets him paid?) than get amnestied + have to move his family.

This is correct. The only time the amnesty "expires" is when the last contract from before the new CBA expires.

Each team is allowed to waive a player without having their salary count toward the salary cap or luxury tax. One player can be waived prior to the start of any season from 2011–12 through 2015–16. It can be exercised during the seven days that follow the July moratorium

still have 4 more seasons to use the amnesty .

Tax levels from 2013–14
Amount over tax threshold...... Standard tax....Repeat offender tax
$5 million or less ................... $1.50 ....................$2.50
$5 million to $10 million............ $1.75 ....................$2.75
$10 million to $15 million...........$2.50..................... $3.50
$15 million to $25 million...........$3.25......................$4.25

gonna be paying almost triple to the dollar in tax next year

The Bi-annual exception was eliminated following the 2011 NBA lockout as many high spending teams were using this as a tool to gain top paid players.

Haywood looked spent? And oden and darko, what did they look like to you?

When Oden plays he's at a totally different level to anything Haywood managed when he was young. Darko needs the right situation and motivation.

Did you watch Haywood? He wasn't even as good as Mahinmi. Finished.

apparently, scola hurt his knee and is getting an mri tomorrow. he might be out for argentina. not that this would move the needle too much, but it might give him a slightly greater chance to clear waivers...
