We do have the 5 Mill exception right? I'd def take Scola for 5 mill. Unless the league indeed addresses the flopping problem. Cuz then Scola would pretty much become half the player he was.

I'd do it and move Millsap. You would have Scola for the next 3 years at a bug discount, certainly less than Millsap is goin to make on the open market.

Yup. Since Houston will be paying his salary for the next three years. I don't understand why more teams don't get in on the action for amnestied players.

Well Houston doesn't pick up the whole tab for him unless you let him clear waivers and then sign him as an unrestricted free agent. If you bid in the amnesty process you pay him the amount of your winning bid and the Rockets pay the rest of his contract.

Right! The Jazz should bid $1 million per year.

I'd go full MLE money for him considering what our alternative is, which is paying Paul Millsap in excess of 10 million.

This way you get him at the time frame you want (3 years) and you get him at a perfect price for a future bench player. Hell I might even be willing to pick up the whole tab.

Aren't the Jazz still under the cap? Most of the salary lists have them at just below $54 mil.

The auctions for amnestied players is silent. If KOC makes a bid, we may never know.

We are under the luxury tax but most certainly not under the cap.

By my math the Jazz are at ~$63M with players under contract. That's counting Bell at his full salary, Evans at ~1.7M, and assumes the options have been picked up on Tinsley and Carroll.

On top of salary the Jazz also have a series of cap holds that effectively count against the cap until those players are re-signed or their Bird rights are renounced. I think the Jazz have ~$40M in cap holds for former players who haven't signed with another team, including CJ Miles, Kirilenko, Ostertag and even Brevin Knight. Renouncing the rights to guys like Brevin Knight and Greg Ostertag would seem to be a mere formality, but the Jazz may wish to hold on to CJ's and AK's Bird rights.

I see. So who do we amnesty in order to bid on Scolla?
