Not to mention he is horrible in drawing up plays in high pressure moments hence the nickname panic van gundy. He is not a championship worthy coach and over stayed his welcome.
So beating the Celtics on the road in a game 7 was chopped liver, right? Also beating the team with the leagues best record (oh yeah, and the league MVP) in the playoffs was no big deal? Can you even name one other top 50 NBA player on that team in '09? Mo Williams was better than any player other than Dwight on that Magic team. It was a miracle they even got to the finals! I'm not saying SVG is the best coach ever, but come on, he is very good and had done well given a tough job in Orlando. Blaming the coach is such a cop-out... They were playing Kobe and Pau when Pau was at the top of his game and probably a top 10 player in the league, Lamar Odom being top 25 easily.
Ok you may disagree with my opinion of stan but don't rewrite history. The magic were favored in the celtics series when garnett went down and you must have forgotten about game 4 and what may have been the worse coaching job in nba history that was game 5 of that series. I can go into detail if you forgot but he was horrendous and even shaq said those games (in adition to a couple others in that series) were exactly why he didn't like SVG as a coach. As for cavs they were completely outmatched. You had Mo and delonte guarding Lewis and Hedo for long stretches who just shot over them. The magic destroyed them and it didn't matter who the coach was.
And I'm not gonna put alot of blame on him for the Lakers because Lewis deserves alot of it but he surely didn't help. Not to mention Nelson should not have played 1 second in the finals, he was beyond terrible and may have threw their chemistry off a little.
