DJ has wanted out since the day we drafted Kemba. You heard it in his voice during the opening game intro of this past season when they interviewed him. He knew the organization wasn't sold on him and felt disrespected and had a lot to prove heading into the season. Sadly, he wilted once again when under pressure.
I think it got to the point where DJ just decided that trying to rehab his career on a team that wants him is much more important than taking the most money right now. Which I actually agree with because he needs to get his act together if he wants to have a long and good NBA career. He was never going to feel comfortable here so in his eyes going to Indy he gets that anvil lifted off his back and he can start fresh.
Also, if he were to sign here then there is a good chance we end up trading him, possibly to a place where he doesn't want to go while being locked into a long term deal. Now he is in total control of his situation. Play well, then more options open up to him next summer and he can choose where he wants to play. At least in the short-term.
