i like the idea of starting with the young guys early to start the games like our summer league game...set the tone defensively and wear the other team down and start super fast then bring in the vets who will know how to finish them. i think we will actually be a good team next season.

Now your just putting too much stock in what you saw in the Summer League. We will be no where close to a good team. We will be BETTER than we were last year though...

Right now were looking at a group of Sessions/Gordon/Taylor/Thomas/Haywood off the bench. Many years that would be our best starting lineup....Good mix of vets and youngins.

Haywood for 2.05M per for 3 years isn't bad. I'll take it. Don't often get 7 footers for that price.

EDIT**** I thought we had to pay that on the remainder years of his deal? Is this just for next year?

2.05 each year. Three years and there's a team-option for a fourth year, which we'll probably decline if it transfer to us.

Best thing is Cuban has to pay some dough.

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
Mavericks will pay remaining $6.34M of Haywood's salary this season and $25.2M of guaranteed money left on his contract.

if we get Jamison and amnesty Tyrus

Walker/Sessions
Hendo/Gordon/Williams
MKG/Taylor/UPS
Mully/Jamison
Biz/Haywood

with Dunlap...that could honestly be an 8th seed. Unlike that last couple years theres not multiple worthless scrubs being forced into playing meaningful minutes. not that we should want an 8th seed..but we could get getting better than we were expecting

Haywood was due for around $8 million per year over 3 years. The Bobcats will pay him slightly above $2 mil per season over those 3 years meaning that Cuban will pay the remainder which comes to roughly $6 million per season.

So let's get this straight:

- Good coach
- Dump Bad Porn
- Get Ben **** Gordon
- Draft two solid rookies
- Get Sessions
- Get Haywood
- Someone else?

I think I can live with not getting KwaMVP back. We're setting up for a nice season. We'll still suck, granted, but it won't be as depressing as last year.

Here's more clarification on deal:

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
Clarification on Haywood: Charlotte's winning bid was $2.05M per year. Minimum bid for Haywood for this season is $4.19M.

Still not bad. Don't find 7 footers with his experience for 2 million. After next season he becomes a trade-able asset because of that salary.

If it's 2.05 per year, that's 6.15. He's getting 4.19 of that this year, so just under $2m for two seasons? That's less than the veterans min. I could see a team like Miami calling about him next season.

If the minimum bid was 4.19, how did we bid 2.05?

I'm assuming that teams bid on the amount they're willing to pay "per season", so that's obviously an average. However, it seems whichever team won needed at least 4.19 to absorb for this season due to Haywood's contract. Not an issue for us.

Yeah, I just saw it on BCP. It had to be over 4.19 total since he's on a 3 year (at least) deal, and we got him for 6.15 total.

I assume the 2.05 is going to be the cap hit, not his total minimum bid

Regardless, it's a deal compared to what some of these bigs are getting this year. I'd rather have Haywood for peanuts than Asik's 5/5/15.

His numbers are better than Asik's. Asik is getting paid what, $25M? Awesome deal for us. I don't think Haywood gives us more wins, but I think we'll get blown out a lot less often.

this is good news. but like others have said, i dont agree with bonnell that haywood will be the starter. i'd rather have him take diops minutes. but, even if he does start, i would still expect biz to get his 20-25 minutes per night. i dont think we will see biz getting 30+ minutes very often this season, which is probably a good thing at this stage of his development.

2.05mil is very reasonable.

are we still in the hunt for jamison? i havent seen the net much today?

This is a good acquisition. I was getting a little weary of not having a veteran with size in the frontcourt. I don't expect Haywood to be a game changer by any means, but I think he'll be able to make a difference when Biz & Mully show their inexperience. I'd rather see Biz start, but I'm not opposed to him coming off the bench to Haywood. Biz will get his 25+ minutes, because at this stage in his career I can't see Haywood getting the bulk of starter's time even if he wanted to.

Last from Bonnell was that we are unlikely to get Scola but are still way open for Jamison, it's just up to Jamison.

So what is the cap hit of Haywood this year? Just the 2.05? With Sessions 5 mill/per deal we were sitting at about 55 million. So if we get Jamison, it will likely be at Vet Min, or slightly over. Don't have a whole lot of room to play with.

No reason Gana couldn't do what Haywood will bring us.

And we are already paying him.

Yeah, but I get the feeling Diop is about to be dropped. Also Haywood probably is a good mentor and will give us a 7 footer (so that Mully/Biz can play some PF). This adds versatility to our lineup. Remember that our best experiences with Centers have come from washouts like Kwame Brown and Muhammed, Haywood is better than either of those two were when we obtained them while also being able to mentor the younglings rather than be a distraction.

As is posted in GB I think this is a GREAT deal actually. Centers are being wildly overpaid at the moment and Haywood will be an excellent trade chip to have at deadline the next 3 years on his contract. All it takes is for a contender to lose their center to a season ending injury and they will overpay in assets to get a center like Haywood on such a reasonable deal. And if they don't trade him it's 2 mill a year for a serviceable center which is way below market value. Cho is the man.
