I dont think his retirement is the big deal, because thats a lock that it will be a gigantic event! The main point is that the franchise and organization has ALWAYS . . . since elgin, wilt, kareem etc... WE HAVE ALWAYS FOUND THE NEXT SUPERSTAR to lead our squad. So im interested to see who that individual will be. The Last line of succession was Magic, SHAQ, KOBE, and now . . . we shall see.

I'll believe Kobe retiring at 36 when I see it.

I always hoped Kobe would keep going. Even if it meant being the 6th man of the year at 41 (Nash will play that long). I hope Nash talks Kobe into keep playing at an older age.

Nash was 36 a few years ago. You know.

if La makes some finals runs, he will have 25 seasons of ball on his legs.

He already has somewhere between 19-20 with Olympics and the playoff runs

He says he can see himself retiring after his two years deal is up which means two more seasons for the legendary Kobe Bean Bryant.

That's great news. Kobe's had a great career and I'd hate to see him go out like Wizard's Jordan, which is what he's sort of becoming at this point.

Nash will rejuvenate and extend Kobe's career. Ask him this same question in 2 years and I see him giving the same answer. He hints now that he can't see himself playing into the end of his 30s but once he sees Nash do it successfully there is little doubt in my mind he'll continue to play.

Somebody else do the math please:

Barring injury, how many points does Kobe need to average over the next 3, 4, and/or 5 seasons to surpass Kareem as the all-time leading scorer?

Are we supposed to count playoffs games? If not:

Kareem: 38,387
Kobe: 29,484

38,387 - 29,484 = 8,903

8,903/ (82*3) = 36.2/game

8,903/ (82*4) =27.1/game

8,903/ (82*5)= 21.7/game

Thanks man.

If i'm Kobe, i'd go for it.

After 4 seasons, he's staring right at it ... at the tender age of 38.
